Cows, Pumpkins & Pinnipeds

You might ask: what do cows, pumpkins and pinnipeds have in common? I saw them all while flying in
yesterday's clear air over clear water along the shoreline going West. First we spotted these cows enjoying
piles of pumpkins. Then what we thought at first were dolphins turned out to be pinnipeds. Maybe the
first, large one is a sea elephant? The slim second one looks to me more like a seal. Then we did finally see
a dolphin and I managed to get this long telephoto pic complete with bubbles and seaweed.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane John. The Santa Cruz beach-side dairy farm we visited every Sunday when I was as a kid grew a field of pumpkins just to feed their Holstein herd. Bonus--we kids each got to pick out our own pumpkin every year! What a cool place that was--dirt floors, three legged milking stool, wild barn cats, cheese house, and the BEST beach in the world, which we had all to ourselves. It was a family tradition: pack a lunch, load the kids in the car, drive over Highway 9 to Santa Cruz every Sunday for 40 years, through two generations. Every year when I carve a pumpkin, I recall the eewwww factor of the slimy guts from pumpkins we got at Scaroni's dairy.
