I am looking for suggestions for a photographer for my daughter's July wedding in Santa Barbara. It would
probably be someone who is not "old school".

I got married in May and had a great experience with Phillip Van Nostrand - he and his crew were awesome and I loved the photos!!! He posted some on Facebook during the event and had them all edited and ready to go within a couple weeks!

You know... you can find cheap photographers (shoot & burn) who will record the day with the pizzazz of a friday night football game or you can go with someone who gets your daughter and her fiancee and will be able to capture the moments in memorable ways that will be cherished for years. The only way to find the latter is to surf the websites of local photogs and see whose work most serves your needs. Asking a bunch of strangers is only inviting disaster as no one here has a clue to who your family is and what you seek on such a unique occasion.

Our best shots (20 years ago) were all from friends and family. Though the quality of the pics by the wedding photog my Mom hired were better, there were almost none of my brother, other important relatives or a few close friends, and far too many of a roommate (from another country, wearing native dress), and others not so important to us. If you hire a pro, make sure you have someone with a cue card clue them in.

I got married earlier this year and Rob Grayson (robgrayson dot com) was wonderful! He did an amazing group shot that included EVERYONE in my wedding. I also recommended him to several other newly engaged friends.
My friend got Phil Van Nostrand, and unfortunately he didn't listen to her requests and did his own 'artistic thing'.

Kacie Jean Photography! Google her website and see how amazing she is. You can pay less and get lesser quality photos (it really isn't just a point and shoot kind of thing). Kacie will work hard to make sure you have wonderful natural looking expressions. She knows how to make everyone at ease and look incredible. She has such a great artistic sense, too. We have all our family portraits done by her, and I wish she had been our wedding photographer!

Congrats to them!! I was married earlier this year (we paid for the wedding ourselves so we were on a very limited budget) and used CHERRY THOMAS. After looking through MANY MANY photographers we settled on her becuase of her unique style and edge as well as her GREAT pricing and packaging. It included a wonderul "brag book" that is easy to keep on the coffee table and carry to friend's houses or work to show off. She's got a fabulous personality and so much to work with! Best of luck!

Here is an even better idea. Since photographers charge so much money for this function and with a good digital SLR, an average person can do a very good job.. Why not do what we did, spend a lot less money and BUY a real nice digital SLR for a friend who does take good pictures and have them do it for you. Save you a lot of money and your buddy gets a nice camera as well. Everyone wins!

I have used several local photographers, Miguel is good but may be priced out of your range. For the big budget I would recommend Miguel Fairbanks or Elizabeth Messina. Just look at samples and go with the style you like. If you are on more of a budget I would highly suggest Kelsy Crews.

I got married in Feb at the stow house, and we used Katie from FotoCielo. Katie was amazing!!! Made us feel really comfortable. And the owner Tim, he was so nice and a pleasure to work with. We did a payment plan over 6 months, and they had no problem working with us. We are expecting in March and are planing on using them to do our daughter's first photos.

I'm a professional photographer in town, and besides myself I can definitely vouch for Jessica Fairchild who is totally awesome, as well as Rob Grayson, and well, pretty much all of the people named here. I think personality goes a lonnng way in wedding photography. This person will be with you the longest amount of time on your wedding day! Make sure you like them :)

I've had 4 kids marry. To me it's crazy to spend a fortune on loads of photos that end up filed away somewhere; luckily we have professional photographers in our family. A friend who married a few years ago hired a Brooks Institute student who took many, many photos and gave the bride and groom a disk of them all to have made up what they wanted. At the time my friends paid $100 an hour, a few hours of pre-wedding, ceremony and reception was all it cost. Of course, if you're independedly wealthy, go for spending the big bucks. Otherwise, save it toward a first home. If parents are paying, give the money to the couple as a "leg-up".

He has an amazing eye for capturing the perfect moments and in a way that makes the subject feel relaxed and unobtrusive. I hire him to do personal and professional photos for me and my family, always a joy to work with! One of the coolest things he does is having a slide show of the photos he had just taken playing during the event so guests can see earlier activities. Two thumbs up!

It is 7 minutes, they were very unobtrusive, yet, they captured the day amazingly! Tell them the Boubel/Lynch wedding recommended you.
