I usually volunteer at the Organic Soup Kitchen. The vibe is excellent, the people are super, the food is delicious, and it's a whole lot of fun!

I am fortunate to have lots of family here. We all get together, usually alternating homes, and each provide our signature dish to share. The host provides the turkey, drinks, and whatever else they wish. It is a great time for all.

Not exactly single, but my boy & I go to another couple's house and we do Thanksgiving every year. All 4 of us are from PA, and they are the closest people we have to family, so it's nice to do Thanksgiving with them. If I were single, I'd still do T-day with friends, assuming I family isn't an option. Shoot out an email to friends or create a Facebook event inviting friends to bring a dish & enjoy the day with you. Not sure if this is your style, but camping for Thanksgiving is always fun, too, or rather camping afterwards. With all those left overs, camping is amazing.

The T-day blues song- I ain't got nobody, ain't got no shoes, my dog just died and I got the blues. My girlfriend left me, for another man, don't know what to do, ain't got no plan. I'll hit the road, it's all I know head west, young man and all that blow I'll find a turkey before I'm through and have a feast with all of you. It's cold outside, and rain and snow that whiskey keeps me warm you know, at night when the lanterns glow I'll hit the road, it's all I know. M.

I'm single and all my family is down in SD. Since I don't travel on holidays I either go to friends or cook for myself and take a long walk on the beach- no one is out there and it's so peaceful. I have a friend who surfs and he says its one of his favorite days to go surfing. Don't be bummed ifi you have no one to spend the day with - It's a great time to reflect on what you are thankful for. Enjoy the day!

Also a great day to skate down state st. in the morning. Yeah, yeah, it's against the rules, but TG and xmas morning it is a ghost town and you can get away with it clean with minimal danger.

That would be cool ...Instead of the bike ride from the dolphin fountain, how about a 1000 skate borders from mission st all the way down to the fountain to the skate park! On the 31 they would call it skate st for one day of the year.

Here's a sad story: when my parents were still alive, we used to make it point to invite friends/bachelors we knew had no relatives to visit or nowhere else to go. We had some wonderful dinners. My mother was a great cook, and I used to make fancy side dishes and several types of pies. It was all lovely. My father passed away. As my mother aged and needed my care, we stopped cooking our own dinners. No one ever invited us over for Thanksgiving. I have had friends tell me, at length, all about their wonderful dinners and then add, "So what did you do for Thanksgiving?" There seems to be a mindset that Thanksgiving is for family members only. I think everyone should be more generous and welcoming to those who have nowhere else to go but a restaurant. I do find Thanksgiving and Christmas to be the best time to enjoy SB beaches and long walks in the neighborhood. Another reason to appreciate Super Bowl Sunday, too.

If you find yourself alone on Thanksgiving it can be a bit lonely. But if you are alone in SB on Thanksgiving, you are blessed. Many of our residents have left town, many of those that live here go to their relatives. So, instead of a turkey dinner, explore the city of SB. It's gorgeous. Go out and experience what it was like 50 years ago. Very little traffic and people. That's my advice for a single.

Growing up in Las Vegas, we always had some "orphans" at our thanksgiving table: single friends, kids whose parents were working, someone with no family around, etc. As an adult, I always automatically invite someone who I think might otherwise be alone.

Dan needs a hot tryptophan injection. I'm right up the hill from you and have offered several beers over the years, but I fear the ednanny would pop a gasket should I post my handle.

It's become a tradition to take my parents to the San Ysidro Ranch. Festive, cozy and great food without all the work. And before that a long bike ride since the streets are pretty clear.

713P nailed it. Please don't forget elderly people who are down to only 1 or 2 nearby family members. Be generous and share your thanks with others. That was the original point of the holiday, and should be the point now. Let us ALL be thankful for the relative bounty we have on this day (even those of us who are broke).

My family of 4 stay home. We have a tradition of going to the zoo to see the animals get pumpkins especially the elephants. This year we will do the same with the addition of my best friend from Vegas joining us and I'm smoking my Turkey this year on my new Traeger grill.

My mother always had a neighbor over and we took a plate of warm food next door to a widow who had no family. One year, here is SB, I invited our Electrolux man, Mr. Day and his wife. They were in their nineties. Nice to share.

you're right Dan; it might be a good day to try out my new binos at a special spot. I'll think about where. Maybe make some pumpkin handpies to take for a snack.

I'm a solitary creature - I typically will work in the morning (my company is 24/7), chill in the afternoon and go to an early dinner at a nice restaurant - sit down style not buffet. It's a good day to regroup and (honestly) be thankful for the many good things in my life. Hope all of you enjoy the coming season.

Usual gig is serving or doing whatever at the Lompoc Valley Community Kitchen for homeless, struggling, lonely, elderly, single or otherwise - usually a great meal! Unfortunately, I will be out of the country this year. Purisima (Parish) Hall of La Purisima Catholic Church, 213 W. Olive in Lompoc. Great folks and great food!
