Does anyone know what the status of the trial for Brian Sawicki, former SBPD who allegedly exposed himself in Refugio beach. I know the case started two weeks ago, I am curious if there is a verdict ?

Strange that it hasn't been in the news much...

They probably don't want to taint the jury... there will be a report once it's resolved.

I read a report about the trial in the SB Independent a few days ago. The trial is taking place in Santa Maria, so that may explain why you're not hearing much about it in SB.

The jury should not be reading anything about the trial, but we readers can and want to be tainted!

What's going on??

Usually when a trial is going on there's a little blurb about what happened that day in court...just haven't heard anything except for the Independent article last Monday that the trial was beginning. Maybe check Santa Maria papers?

Not in the news? There was a long story in Saturday's News-Press by their excellent reporter, Nora Wallace, reporting on Friday's testimony. If you go to the web site and look under Local for Saturday, you'll find it. (It's a pay site so if you don't subscribe, you'll have to pay to read it --- or go to the SB Library.)

I think the general consensus in Santa Barbara is SBNP=not reliable news....

Agreed, 017P

The News- Suppress is never as Fox News (choke) calls it, "Fair & Balanced."

I just looked online at Santa Maria Times if you care to read about it.

944p - exactly. It was in the News Press which you have to pay for if you want to read online. Not exactly accessible for most of us living in the modern world who don't have a paper delivered and who get our news free and easily online. So no, the OP is right, it wasn't in the news much...the accessible, "real" news.

Sorry, 17P and 26P, Nora Wallace is an excellent reporter. Always was, still is; her work is accurate and well-written. Just because you're in a snit about the News-Press and its owner means nothing about this particular reporter and her work ... and, actually, other reporters and stories in that paper.

And as for a pay site, I agree, and, sadly, many other papers are following the News-Press in this, including the LATimes in April, I think. The News-Press, however, allows no free reading, while the NYTimes, for instance, allows 10 (or is it 20) stories/month.

I can get on the NY times and read the majority of the paper. I get my news usually fron the news sites. Why would I pay to read yesterday's news from the newpress website. It would be nice to read some local stories, but I'm not going to pay to get their online access. I would think that noozhawk and the independent would have more up to date info on the Sawicki trial.

Admittedly off topic, but how sad it is that our society has come to expect that everything in life should be free. I guess that applies for them also to be accessing Edhat.

BOB L, no I wasn't saying "everything" should be free. News, info that is important for our local community should be free. Making an online version of a paper that has abbreviated stories or basic information about local news is easy.

Charge for premium access to things like expanded articles, series or food and local events, but not real news.

Even the LA and NY times allow access to breaking news of significant importance and they do both allow up to 12 articles per month be accessed on their sites for free.

And if you find an article linked through google or another search engine, it's free to view. Not so w the SBNP.

The only way to get accurate news reporting is by paying the reporters. Those of us who care about that, recognize that there are costs to the "free" news, subscribe to edhat and some of the others. News, info about our community, simply does not just drop out of the air, unless it is the citizen reporting here. Roger Dodger, for instance, gets paid; so are the reporters on the Independent and KEYT and Noozhawk. It's good of them to give free access but the Independent and KEYT are supported by advertising. Hopefully, Noozhawk and edhat won't go the way of the Daily Sound that could not survive by being free.
