Milpas Street Construction
updated: Oct 29, 2012, 11:43 AM

Source: City of Santa Barbara

The City is pleased to announce the start of construction to install traffic improvements on Milpas Street that include pedestrian safety improvements, pavement maintenance, and new traffic striping between Haley Street and Canon Perdido Street. Milpas Street from Cota Street to Canon Perdido Street will be reduced from two to one lane in each direction with a center turn lane. Pedestrian flashing beacons will be installed at the intersections of Milpas Street and Ortega Street and Milpas Street and Yanonali Street. Traffic delays and parking restrictions will occur during construction.

The traffic improvements are the result of significant public input with the approval of funding by the City Council. Upon completion, the improvements are expected to result in greater pedestrian safety and provide benefits to all modes of transit.

Construction on Milpas Street is scheduled for completion in the following sequence:

· Pavement repairs, slurry seal, and street striping - October 29 to November 9, 2012;

· Install the Ortega Street and Yanonali Street pedestrian flashing beacons - November 26 to December 14, 2012

The Public Works Department thanks the public in advance for your patience and cooperation during construction. If you have comments on or questions about the project, please contact Adam Hendel , Supervising Engineer, at (805) 897-1921 or via email at AHendel@SantaBarbaraCA.gov .
