My three year old LG flat screen TV is turning on and off without me hitting the controls and is doing some
really weird things. No help available through the owners manual. Anyone experience this kind of thing or
know who I could get to my home to look at it? I didn't see any previous referrals for this situation.

Are you on Dishâ„¢? I had similar issues with my TV and discovered a neighbor's Dish remote was also affecting mine. Re-programmed the Dish channel control number and problem went away. (Instructions on their website)

The old woman who died in my house years ago has been messing with us for years. Doors, closets, dressers and lights.

Did a google search and there are quite a few people with the same problem. Perhaps if you googled "LG flat screen TV is turning on and off" you could find a solution.

Is it fully turning on and off or is the screen just blinking? My LG started blinking every now and then and I just dusted off the plugs on all the AV cords and it stopped.

Where is your remote? Check under the sofa cushions as you might be activating it when you sit.... just kidding but it is a possibility.

Is it LCD or Plasma? It can be an easy fix. Im not an expert, but have fixed a few TVs including my own. If you have some contact info, I could go over it with you. Im not a paying member, so nanny might remove this if I post my email.

Assuming it's not any of the above... Have you po'd any neighbors lately? Or have one that's a practical joker? Because websites like Think Geek sell remotes that are tiny, and will control any TV (ideal for getting yourself killed if used in a sportsbar if they ever figure out it's you).

Many thanks to all who posted. 603-if you have the time to "walk" me thru a fix I'd sure appreciate it. My phone # 680-1428. I have an LCD-called their help line, got an 18 year old in the Phillipines and she had me turn the TV on. Was on for an hour without any problems but based on my last few days history I'm expecting the problem has not been fixed. I

Get a square Sony Trinitron 32". Ours works great and you can probably pick one up for free. Picture quality is amazing (especially if you've never seen HD before) haha.

I doubt this is related but is it connected to a cable box? My cox dvr stopped responding to remote clicks yesterday and then decided to do all of the commands about a minute later, which was nice.

I echo the "unplugging the TV" suggestion. What has worked for me in the past is unplugging all the related electronics then starting them back up again. Sort of an electronics "reboot."

Ooh. LOVE Dr. John. Really great, knows his stuff and won't make you pay through the nose. Think he's fixing mostly computer equipment now, but it would be worth it to call and ask about your t.v. You'll be happy with him. I have used him for years, for various electronics. Nice, nice guy.

Many LCD TV models from 5 years ago or so have notoriously bad capacitors in their power supplies. Some manufacturers have settled class action suits with promises of repair, but you can also fix it yourself with many online guides, if you have basic electronics experience. Your symptoms match up pretty well...

Check the power cord where it plugs into the back of the set. Make sure it is seated snugly (some of them, you'll hear a "click" when engaged properly). If you know the model of your set, go to the AV Science Forum website (www avsforum com). There's a wealth of information there and you'll be able to chat with fellow owners of your model plus other enthusiasts. I've solved all my own home theater problems using that site.

Did you just have the new meter box put it? It will do that to appliances, lights, tv, etc. I was in Sonoma when my brother's TV and lights kept going on and off and the new style meter reader was installed. If so, call the electric company and please post if it was so others will know this can happen.

OP-thanks to all who replied. I love Edhat. This was a perfect example of how a community forum should work. By the way, the unplugging of all components for about a half hour has solved my problem. I was ready to call a TV repair person, which would have cost probably minimum $75 or so (??) so I owe the respondents and Edhat a hearty Thanks!!
