UCSB Kidnapping
updated: Oct 29, 2012, 7:26 AM

By Edhat Subscriber

I got a text from UCSB saying there was a kidnapping attempt. Does anyone have any info?

Authorities in Isla Vista are investigating a sexual assault this Monday morning. Police say, the attack happened after 10:30 Sunday night while a woman was walking on Embarcadero Del Mar. (10/30/12)

Noozhawk has the story. Woman walking in IV on Emb. del Mar was pulled into a dark-colored sedan around 10:30pm, but was able to escape. Suspect is hispanic with a "wide nose."

There was also a rape late Saturday night. The girl came running across the little park, to the 700 blk of Camino Del Sur, where the Manager stayed with her and called the Police.

Creeps here from out of town. Be careful even if you're not in IV.

Every female walking at night or just walking to her car (even a short distance) should have pepper spray in hand, ready to use. Pepper spray only costs about $10. Its use could save many females a lot of trauma and grief.

There's a scary UCSB alert almost daily that involves knives, sexual assault or battery. I'm glad people are finally getting a chance to see how dangerous IV and the UCSB area is (and has always been, for as long as I've lived here.) I think it was kept under wraps for a long time, but more reports are making the news, now.

Be safe, everyone.

630: There sure are a lot of violent crimes, burglaries, sexual assaults, etc, in IV. I don't know how it compares with other areas. New York City also sounds life-threatening based on the # of reported crimes, but the crime rate/capita is low relative to a lot of other spots. Isla Vista and NYC both have a very high population density. Pepper spray, police whistles, etc, are wise. I've read reports of many burglaries in IV involving victims whose doors and/or windows were unlocked.

Ehhh...it's mostly gangsters finding easy prey with naive drunken kids. There's also the occasional homeless lunatic, but most of the serious crimes are committed by out of towners from south of the SB border. Gotta love IV!

There are some sick and twisted people out there get all the protection you need..The shelter used to give out whistles every year for the women they help too..

I sure wish those young people would be told about the dangers out there and how to realize that it COULD happen to them. Too many times people say something like, "I've been walking home alone at night for 2 years and have never had a problem". or "I've been leaving my doors unlocked for BLANK years and nothing has happened". Well that's what everyone says UNTIL something happens. PEPPER SPRAY PEOPLE!! IN YOUR HAND AND READY TO GO!!!

There was an article in the N-P this morning. Guy tried to snatch her into his car but she fought him off and escaped out the passenger side. Sorry folks, even tho' I'm not a fan of Wendy, I still subscribe to the N-P. You'd be surprised how much you miss by standing on your principles. (There's also been daily coverage of the Sawicki trial (see above)

I'd rather be principled. I sleep better at night.
