Fire Department Increased Staffing
updated: Oct 24, 2012, 4:21 PM

Source: Santa Barbara County Fire Department

In response to the expected increased temperatures and high winds predicted throughout Santa Barbara County,
the Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBC FD) has requested additional resources from CAL
Fire.

As a result of a conference call, CAL Fire will stage a strike team consisting of five
engines and a leader in Carpinteria and will also make available four hand crews from
Ventura County.

At 8 am on Thursday October 25, 2012, SBC FD will increase its staffing levels to
include a task force consisting of three engines, water tender, and a leader. These
additional resources will be available for response in the Santa Barbara County
Operational Area.
We are also informing the public to:
• Report any sign of smoke immediately to your local fire department by calling 911 (if your call 911 from your cell phone, you must know your location).
• Use extreme caution when operating spark of flame producing machinery in hazardous grass or brush areas.
• Have an evacuation plan in place and identify two exit routes from your neighborhood. If you are asked to evacuate by fire or law enforcement officials, do so immediately.
• Report any suspicious persons or vehicles to law enforcement. This increased staffing pattern will be reevaluated daily.
