Lanny Morgan Sextet Sunday
Sunday November 04, 2012

The Santa Barbara Jazz Society proudly presents the Lanny Morgan Sextet Sunday, November 4 from 1 to 4pm at SOhO. A brilliant bebop alto soloist, often overlooked because he lives in Los Angeles rather than New York, Lanny Morgan is one of the underrated greats who ranks right up there with Richie Cole, Phil Woods, Art Pepper, Cannonball Adderley and Charlie Parker.

His talent has been recognized by countless critics and fans in the US and especially abroad, accounting for many repeat tours of the UK where he has been a frequent front liner with British musicians. As a leader of his own group and a solo performer, he has been on the scene since 1960 playing every major jazz club and festival and guesting as a soloist/clinician at collages and universities in nearly every state of the union. Rounding out the band are fellow "old masters", some older than the others, but masters in their own right: Bob Summers - trumpet, Doug Webb - tenor sax, Tom Rainer - piano, Chuck Berghofer - bass, and Steve Schaeffer - drums.

Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear some of the finest straight ahead jazz around. Admission is $12 for Jazz Society members, $20 for non-members, and $7 for students and musicians. www.sbjazz.org www.lannymorgan.com
