What kind of businesses would you like to see fill the empty spaces at the Albertson's anchored Casitas Plaza in Carpinteria?

I'd like to see a shoe store -- we haven't got one in Carpinteria. I know that chain stores aren't welcome, but it would be so nice to have a Payless Shoes or a Famous Footwear.

767P: In that case, make it a DSW.
(I don't live in Carp, or I'd probably have an opinion myself. I hope whatever goes in does well & is well received. I really wouldn't mind a DSW though. :) )

1) Target.
2) Der Weinerschnitzel.
3) Bob's Big Boy.
4) Saks Carp Avenue.
5) Bentley dealership.

Trader Joe's will never go into a space right next door to Albertson's, come on!

Also, TJ's has a population rule where they won't go into a city or town without a certain population size which Carp doesn't meet, yet. Carp may be ready for TJ's, but TJ's isn't ready for Carp, sadly.

I'm a Goleta boy with no dog in this fight. But I know that TJs considers Carp within the SB periphery so the population issue gets complicated. TJs management would consider it in terms of "is the greater SB area ready for its fourth TJs?" Failing that, maybe a Fresh and Easy is a good fit.

A gentlemen's club. The Rhino needs some competition to up their game.

I have a feeling you'll see a Walgreens or another drug store.

i vote for Trader Joe's as well. I imagine they would pull customers not only from Carp valley and Summerland, but commuters from Ojai/Ventura..

Ventura has two TJ's already and the TJ's on Milpas is close enough for Carp folks.

Not likely to see a Bed, Bath & Beyond or similar chain store take the space and local businesses have a tough time making it in Carp in large spaces. Perhaps a furniture store?

Lazy boy type chairs and couches are always in demand, aren't they?

Practically speaking, we don't need more grocery stores or another drug store (SavOn is inside Albertson's and CVS is already in the center, too). The Hallmark shop that was in the center closed because business was too slow.

Shoes would be the best fit, really! Or a Marshall's/TJ Maxx or other discount operation.

I don't think business was the real problem with Hallmark. The owner's son was killed in a tragic accident, broke her heart; she is way up in years and couldn't sell the store. Very sad story. When Vons wanted to take over Albertsons when their lease ran out, and get the old Thrifty store, doing basically what Albertsons has done, the Vons lease had 15 yrs left. I heard Trader Joes and another healthy type grocery store wanted to buy the lease but Vons refused to consider. They were going to continue paying rent and let the empty store sit there, making no competition for their planned takeover in Casitas Shopping center. A Trader Joes here in Carp would do plenty of business.

Yes, as a firm supporter of Freedom of Speech, I would endorse a new Chick-Fil-A, without hesitation.
