Costco. Especially if you have insurance. You won't need to spend more money like you would at some of the other options. You'll have to wait a week or so for your glasses, but that is the only downside.

Dr. Kolarczyk is the best...an M.D....and a surgeon. He's been checking my eyes for years now, under our VSP plan. His practice is on State and Islay. They also have an optical shop but Costco is a better bet price wise.

We ditched our VSP plan. It only allows you to buy glasses from over priced optometrist offices. The money we save from the monthly premium covers Costco exam. My glasses were actually less there than if I had used VSP and bought through a provider.

CostCo doesn't take VSP. Also? My glasses are very expensive. VSP covers them in full. Like all things, your mileage may vary.

Yup. VSP Glasses at VSP eye doctor's office WITH VSP allowance cost more than Costco glasses. Get your eye exam at VSP office then take the RX and head to Costco to get the glasses made. They have to give you the RX.

My glasses at VSP eye doctor with the VSP discount were still going to cost me $300+. Same RX at Costco regular prices was $250. Anti reflective, high index, no line trifocals.

I'm the person asking for the referral.... just to clarify, I don't need glasses (yet anyway) it's just been quite a few years since I've had a checkup and need to have one. I had Lasik done years and years ago....

The Optometrist at Costco is not a Costco employee. It is her office and her business. The glasses are a Costco item. The OP was asking for a referral for an eye exam and not for a referral for purchasing glasses. Call the Optometrist and see if she is a VSP provider. Dr. Bream is an excellent Optometrist. She does a very thorough eye exam.

I have had very good care from Dr Tiffany Corby @ Eye & Vision Care at Hollister and Patterson. My family doctor has been very impressed with her exams and exam notes. Her husband (Dr Luke) is also excellent for most routine exams though I would reccomend Dr Tiffany for special stuff (squirmy kids, unusual conditions, rapidly changing corrections). Her group works well with VSP, though I agree with several poster that with most VSP plans, paying full pop out of pocket at Costco for glasses (especially lenses!) is cheaper than the VSP co-pay at Eye & Vison. Note though that some VSP plans now work directly with Costco, and if you can find frames you like at the big bland "C" it will save you cash. Corey Bream at Costco was very good with my grandkids, FYI.

Dr. Cory Bream at Costco is excellent. She has the latest and greatest equipment and does a very thorough job. I don't have eye insurance and it was affordable. She even provided me with an 8x10 photo to take to my GP (showing cholesterol in the eye).

I go to Dr. Luke Werkhoven at Eye & Vision Care accross from GVCH in Goleta. Great guy. I get my perscription there and take it to costco for the lenses. I just have to get cleared for an out of network insurance reimbursement before I can get my glasses.

Dr. Burke--has office in Kmart Shopping Center and also downtown. He's a UC Berkeley Graduate and very professional. Very friendly staff and appointment times readily available. He has a state-of-the-art DNA eye scan machine that will track your eye health specific to your eyes which was covered by my VSP insurance also.

I second the vote for Larry Bickford. Old school -- not interested in up-selling you anything -- really concerned about the health of your eyes.

Yet another vote for Eye and Vision, and Dr. Luke specifically. I've been going there for years, it's a great office, & I like all the people there. The receptionists/front office staff are nice and helpful, and the doctors are wonderful. They even helped me get cool Halloween contacts covered under my insurance one year.

Sorry, nothing to do with VSP Network but I went to Dr. Burke about 6 or 7 years ago; he was not pleasant or at least not welcoming of questions; the prescription I received was not right; I didn't want to go back to what seemed his impatience and pay for another exam. I've gone to CostCo and found Dr. Bream capable and very rapid, although that's not necessarily good; it's good to be able to get questions willingly answered. I should add that a friend with difficult eyes swears by Dr. Burke. (I've gone to EyeGlass Factory but have had not good luck with quality of frames recently.)

I also use Tom Fausset at Advanced Eye Care on State Street. I have been pleased with the experience every time. I also like that they offer the option to not dilate your eyes, and instead you can choose this scan that doesn't require eye drops or anything--just staring into a light while they take a picture!
