Hit and Run Accident
updated: Oct 22, 2012, 2:06 PM

By Edhat Subscriber

Anyone know what has happened relating to the hit and run accident on Hollister a week or two ago? It involved a young man driving a Toyota Sequoia hitting a bicyclist and then leaving the scene.

I would like to know how the people involved are doing. Was there a reason established for the driver's actions? Is the victim recovering OK?

Along the same lines, anyone know what happened to the driver of the little yellow car who hit the cyclist near County Jail and didn't pull over until Milpas?

What guy with a gun by San Marcos? I didn't hear about that!
Was it on Edhat, and I missed it?

Shakey - I wouldn't doubt it! That whole thing seemed pretty suspicious. She hit a bicyclist, said she thought it was only a fence and still didn't stop to check? Then she is released without even being cited for leaving the scene of an accident?

Well, at least she may still be accountable for civil liability....

Honest question, how much information is actually public information? If I wanted to call the police department right now and ask all of these questions, would I get answers? Or is it just whatever the police pick and choose to become public info?

378, you didn't hear about the shots fired in the neighborhood across Hollister from SMHS a couple weekends ago in the wee hours of the morning? The sheriffs showed up and a guy confronted them holding a gun in his front yard, who they fired on? Gang activity, etc.... helicopters flying overhead... there's a noozhawk article and one on the sheriff's website....

See, THIS is why we need a daily newspaper on the order of the old, pre-McCaw News-Press. Prior to the days when the clueless Wendy and Emperor (or whatever title he's conveyed upon himself) VonWeaselburger got their meathooks on the NP and turned it into the travesty that it is now, you could rely on the News-Press to do follow-up features on news stories such as those mentioned above.

Edhat is the best source for breaking news--in fact, due to its timeliness it's probably better than most newspapers; but Edhat doesn't employ investigative reporters, so it's pretty impossible for it to do any kind of follow-up stories.

I don't count the hatchet jobs against the Police Department that DUI suspect Peter Lance does periodically in the NP as "follow-up" pieces.

So how to find out the aftermath of a news story? In Santa Barbara, you don't. At least until the McCaw woman comes to her senses and sells the News-Press to someone who has rudimentary knowledge of how journalism works.

I've often wondered about these people who we learn about thru just a passing mention of other sources. That is why I joined edhat within the first day I discovered them. More facts, more accurate postings, genuine feelings, tips, and advise than anywhere else. I 've been watching the paper, the televised news, and radio broadcasts, and all of them put together don't have nearly the coverage that edhat does.

Rumor is the man on the bike is very bad condition. Rumor is it was a 16 year old boy who lives close to the accident. Sad for all... Would love to know what is true and not true.

The injured man is in very bad shape -- basically a vegetable.

The young boy is in terrible shape as well. This will affect him and his family forever. He made a stupid, impulsive decision that will cost him dearly.

This is a tragedy all around, and the implications for all involved are truly sad. Many lessons will be learned, but unfortunately nothing will restore the health of the 64 year old man who was hit.
