Snack Shack Scadaddle

I just drove by and noticed that the Snack Shack, the new eatery in Paseo Nuevo (State & De La Guerra) is closed already. Is that a new record for shortest restaurant span in Santa Barbara history? It felt like only about two months. Anyone know what went wrong?

Their food wasn't very good, probably didn't make enough money to stay afloat with the high rent on State Street and the other better burger places in that area. We tried them and were disappointed AND still hungry afterwards. I hear that Eureka is pretty good though!

They would have done much better w/ either a different location (closer to the beach) and or a different name. Snack Shack ... Not the greatest choice.

Nutshell: Most people starting a restaurant are already faced with a dismal 5% rate of potential success. Writing a business plan and mapping out potential relies on too many guesses. Like, "There's 2000 people walking by each day! All we need is 10% of that and we're rich!" The bi "do in" is the rents. You think Wall Street has tax benefits? So do the comercial RE owners who make more money clawing back taxes then they do from renting at an affordable price. Do you get to claw back previously paid taxes when you have a bad year? No. Would you not work because it's more profitable to take back previous taxes paid? That's what these guys do unless you pay a premium.

Rents are not too high on State Street. Just because they are not what tenants want, does not mean they are too high. They are what they are. Tenants should be the ones who get labeled greedy demanding more money goes to them; not the landlords who actually own what the tenants want. If tenants don't like the rents, then by all means they are free to buy their own piece of State Street storefront and see how they like the mortgage payments instead of the rental payments.

Was the comment about the lame cashier a joke? Surely the respondent knew the person wasn't disabled. This is on the delerted texts.

Why did Edhat delete the response of the person standing up for the Disabled Community? They need representation, too!
