October 21, 2012 - Season

So we got lucky and dodged a big one last week. Maybe it was late in the year, or there were favorable weather conditions, but the fire was fully contained in two days. Special thanks to the firefighters, who were so responsive, and so effective.

People elsewhere complain that the California climate is lacking because there are no seasons. Well, we do have seasons, fire season for one! Lucky us.

Remember it was the Painted Cave fire in 1990 that burned all away to the ocean. This one, which started nearby, was given a more precautionary name- Look Out! We hope that subscribers took care and everyone in Edhat land kept safe. The emergency highlighted some weak points in the Edhat infrastructure that we are hoping to address before the next inevitable event. Thankfully, responding to our plea at the beginning of this month, subscribers contributed generously. We are making the necessary improvements right away.

So, when there is an emergency in Santa Barbara everyone goes to Edhat. We must improve so that we can accommodate everyone. "No room at the inn" will not be our motto. Neither will it be, "Eat More Chicken"( joke).

So, have a great week. And, enjoy the end of the season.

This week, the Dog of the Week is Mi-T, a big dog in a little package, the Cat of the Week is Cinnamon. The Non-profit of the Week is Photographers for Non-profits. They provide photographic assistance to non-profits who may not be able to afford it. The Urban Hikers have a story to tell, and Edda seems to be thinking about food.

---- Edhat Stuff ----------------------------------

ASK EDDA: Dear Edda, My son is in a moderately successful rock band. He has always been pretty talented, but his mother and I pushed him a great deal to succeed.

URBAN HIKE: The Urban Hikers have a fixation with historic adobes. This week they tell about two local 2-story adobes, both built in the early 1800's, and both used as wineries by European settlers.

Edhat has won Santa Barbara's Best Website for its 6th year!

Halloween Story Contest - 2012: It's time for the Fourth Annual Edhat Halloween Story Writing Contest! Have you sent in your submission yet? The deadline is coming up!

Lauren: While perusing the Edhat Event Calendar, Lauren came across a rather striking title, "Two Refugees from Hitler's Germany."

NON-PROFIT OF THE WEEK: Photographers for Non-Profits provide photographic assistance to non-profits who may not be able to afford it. Their goal is to furnish high quality work at no cost whatsoever.

DOG OF THE WEEK: Meet Mi-T, a big personality in a small package.

CAT OF THE WEEK: Meet Cinnamon, the very sweet vocal girl.
