Beer Boo!

Has anyone else heard of this new SB tradition going around? Beer boo'ing? We got boo'd last night.
Someone rang our doorbell and left us a goodie bag with a beer and a note telling us to pass it on to
2 friends and to hang our "I've been beer boo'd" sign outside.

This should be good to see how it plays out.

The words "new" and "tradition" don't seem to sit well together.

I don't think it is a good idea. If you leave it at a neighbor's house that has teenagers and they drink it you're going to be responsible for contributing to a minor. It must be someone who knows you, it's certainly not a SB tradition!

Isn't the term "new tradition" an oxymoron?

How do you pass on one beer to 2 friends? And do they in turn pass it on, or drink it? I don't get this.

I think you pass on the beer boo'ing by giving two different beers to two other people.

A neat idea and twist on "pass it forward" but poorly written given the confusion it has raised. The fact it is friends who are encouraged to pass it forward makes the acceptable nature of the gift all the more appetizing.

Grew up here and no tradition to that, waste of beer in my opinion. Probably a friend trying to get you off the wagon.

kids do it with candy, it's super fun. you leave it on the doorstep and then ding-dong-ditch. both parties love it (and you only do it to someone you know). i like the beer idea for the parents!!

No one is answering the important questions. What kind of beer was it? Was it cold? If you are going to make up a story you need to make up the details too.

Leaving alcohol on front steps outside where kids can get it? What's wrong with this plan?

I just got back from San Luis Obispo and my friend got Boo'd twice. Apparently it has been a tradition there for years. I had never heard of it before.

OP here. We had to do a little research on what other "victims" received before reporting back. For those concerned about brand and temperature, the beer was cold, of good quality (North Coast Brewing or Rogue) and season appropriate- "Dead Guy Ale" and "Pranqster". The accompanying clever note leads us to believe it's the work of a neighborhood dad, who is unlikely to target random houses full of unsupervised teenagers ready to consume dad's (single bottle of) beer... It's obviously a take on the "tradition" of Boo'ing- but instead of ringing the bell and leaving treats for the kids, it's a treat for dad, who then has to pay it forward to two more dads. We think it's good fun and can't wait to pick our victims. Watch out- it could be YOU!

Do the words "new" and "tradition" really make the post so confusing for you to not understand the concept? Why do so many people on edhat feel the need to reply to posts with such hostility. God forbid neighbors/friends exchange beer in a fun spirited fashion. If you don't agree with it DON'T COMMENT ON IT.

I don't understand why people are asking about what beer they got. I can clearly see the picture showing PranQster. I'm totally going to Boo some friends. :-D
