I've seen people put giant stuffed tigers in the area and the birds stay away. It was cool to see the giant stuffed tiger up there in the tree!!! Even a fake snake might do the trick.

I second the tape. It was used on the roof of the Angler Center on Goleta Pier for the first year before it eventually self-destructed. Very effective and remained so even after it was removed. It took a full year before the birds resumed perching there.

Remove the food source. Are you putting out old bread or birdseed? Find out who in your neighborhood is putting out the food. These birds don't hang around just for the fun of it. Someone is feeding them. If your neighbors have bird feeders, there are plenty of feeders designed to keep out the larger birds. You need to do some detective work, if it's not you who is laying the table.

@469. Cats kill millions of songbirds every year. They don't mess with birds the size of pigeons (rock doves) or seagulls, however.

Throw small dead varments up there when you see a hawk around. He will start keeping an eye on the place.

I like 704's suggestion. I did something similar with rats and a neighbor's barn cats. I lured them over with a freshly zapped (not poisoned) rat and they started patrolling part of my property, too. Didn't see a single rat for over a year. Then the neighbor moved and took the cats. I had to buy a new rat zapper.
