Carpet to Rug
updated: Oct 14, 2012, 2:00 PM
I am getting a gorgeous new seafoam-colored carpet that is being ripped
out of a house (the realtor recommended beige for the upcoming sale) and
would like to have it made into a rug or two. Can any Edhatters
recommend someone who can do this?

Oh, just wondering: since you already paid for the green carpet, you have to pay for the new rugs to be bound from the old carpet, and then you have to pay for new wall-to-wall beige carpet; would it be possible to just buy some large, beige area rugs? Perhaps a nice sisal for an airy beach theme?

Truthteller, I am getting the rug for free. It's someone I met when I bought a chair they posted on CL; they are downsizing and selling their house. Their realtor wants them to rip out the "old" carpeting because of the color and put in bland beige. So I asked if I could have the carpet if it is just going to be thrown away, and they said yes. The carpet is relatively new, in perfect condition, and stunning. If I had the money I'd buy their house just for that carpeting. : ) I have laminate wood flooring in my place, but a large rug could be perfect in the bedroom (and it will be great with the chair). A small rug will be good in either the den or the bathroom. 238 and Truthteller, thank you for the recommendations. I will check both of them on Monday.

Okay, but just know that the backing on w2w carpet will tear up any solid-surface and carpeted flooring. Be sure to get protection for the flooring underneath. BTW: if new carpet is so important to the realtor in order to make the sale of the house, would it be possible to take the cost of the new carpet out of the realtor's commission, should the house sell? Just wondering,,,

Abbey's Carpet City did a good job of binding a rug for me.

NB---it's "used" but in good condition and "stunning," according to the poster. AMARA: You love it, it's free, you've saved time looking for something you like. You are way ahead of the game. Best of luck with this project. Just make sure you research the costs and determine the best quality work and best price. From my experience, Starr Rug (two "r" s?) can be punishingly expensive. Don't forget to add in the cost of new padding.
