October 14, 2012 - Nearly Ed

When Ed first moved to Santa Barbara 20+ years ago he was told repeatedly that this was the home of the newlywed and the nearly dead. Ed was lucky to stay here long enough to make the journey on the Winding Road from one side of the pass to the other.

But, as many of you know, some of our friends don't make it in the long haul. Because of the recent downturn in the economy and the limited job market, many of them have begrudgingly moved from the area in recent years. It is sad for them. And, it is sad for us, too.

But at least Edhat is happy to know that we have helped them remain connected to the community and their friends. We all hope they move back soon, or at least visit us for Thanksgiving.

As the old saying goes, you can take the barbarian out of Santa Barbara, but you can't take Santa Barbara out of the barbarian.

As an aside, Camarillo is not that long a commute. You could still live here and work there happily.

The Dog of the Week is TakTani of the Arctic. The Cat of the Week is Jojo. Edda answers yet another tough question; we will tell you how much a slice of pizza costs, and who won that contest, and; get your pencils ready, because the Fourth Annual Edhat Halloween Story Writing Contest is coming!

---- Edhat Stuff ----------------------------------

FICTION: Bud Stuart writes a prayer for Bellosguardo.

ASK EDDA: Dear Edda, A few weeks ago I went out drinking with my buddies. We started out in town, but ended up in LA in the morning.

Did you guess the average price of a slice of pizza in Santa Barbara? Click here to find out.

CAT OF THE WEEK: Meet Jojo, the charmer with beguiling ways.

DOG OF THE WEEK: Meet TakTani, the handsome lad from the Arctic.
