How is this any different from tagging or graffitti? Except for its ability to be easily removed that is.

302P, EXACTLY. It's plain annoying and no better in principle than any of the neck tattoo squad taggers' work. Not only that, now these pieces are 3d??? Hope none of them are at eye level...

i like them - it's art, and it's not defacing any property like spray paint. it makes the phone poles just a little more interesting.

They make ordinary things much more interesting. They are a pleasant surprise. I like them. Keep them coming GONE!

I love them. They are unexpected treats and always make me smile. I spotted a pretty old one last weekend and was delighted by it. It was the first one I've seen outside the city limits...Thank, GONE - keep putting them up!

I too, am a big fan of GONE's art, they are indeed a treat for my eyes. A telephone pole is rather utilitarian, boring and not particularly pretty to look at. Why would anyone object (unless your'e the telephone co.) to this? Have the negative commenters never put up a garage sale sign or similar on a telephone pole? Jeez.

Just a reminder from the wife of someone who had to climb these poles, to keep utilities workin for ya: They are work tools, not public bulletin boards conveniently placed for your 2 cents worth. Keep the poles clean and free of nails, cleats, spikes, etc. Those metal objects can gouge a hole in a leg faster than you can think about it. So think about it first, and DON'T DO IT. Utility workers thank you.

SEEDLADY, good point, but do utility workers still climb poles? I seriously don't know, it seems more often than not, they use the 'cherry picker' to access their lines.

This is hardly art. I have friends that are legitimate street artists and Gone's work seems like something out of a junior high art class. The epitome of sophomoric.

I'm neutral on these. As a pedestrian, I could see not liking these extra corners sticking out from poles as I'm trying to share the sidewalk. But they are colorful and bring some style to the eyesores that poles are. Where I went to school in northern California, there was a guy who would regularly drive around town and use a shovel to scrape off any postings on poles like this. He was always scowling, saying it's not public property and everything. No one liked him doing it, but he was probably right. Actually I think he was a retired utilities guy. He'd always just leave the stuff he scraped off there on the sidewalk or gutter.

These look they are smart meters, disguised as art, monitoring the neighborhood and sending magnetic fields into the nearby locations. Be very careful when approaching.

I don't like most of GONE's stuff, but these I do. I am a fan of street art in general, whether it be these, the movable sculptures, yarn bombing or what have you. Makes life one big easter egg hunt.

its odd to me that if is promotes happy hour for a bar or a yard sale its accepted to post whatever you like but if it promotes art in any way people are quick to destroy it simply because they don't understand it. art is good for tourism and tourism is good for SB. Theres a reason the Funk Zone is becoming the new focal point, some people can appreciate a few block withouts white walls and red tile roofs. costs the city nothing and brings in revenue. support the arts it is good for Santa Barbara.

They're interesting...guerrilla art fare. More interesting than some of the commissioned pieces. Certainly better than the dinosaur poo we had dumped on the streets a few years ago.

Yes, not all crews have bucket trucks. My hubby was in charge of maintaining the SLO county emergency sirens mounted on poles all through the coastal zones of our county. Often they couldn't get a even a smaller bucket truck near the pole (embankment, culvert, narrow road etc) and they had to climb the pole to get to the battery compartments. They were checking and changing out marine batteries. He left that assignment after three years with a much deeper respect for line crews and what they face from disrespectful drivers along country roads. City crews do have bucket trucks but any foreign sharp objects in the poles still make their job more hazardous than it already is. Please, never put anything into a wood pole. It is private property, after all. Thanks.

I haven't had a yard sale in 10 years, but I do promise to be more careful in the future with my nails and staples. However, I think "Lost Pet" signs belong on the wood utility poles, and I support people recycling their old junk via yard sales and the necessary signs. (Please, people, take signs down after your sale is done or your pet is found.) Those of us who walk and ride bikes can always provide the public service of removing aged signs and recycling them. I do it all the time, with out-dated yard sale or event signs. My favorite thing to see on wood utility poles is Acorn woodpeckers.

I really don't care for this guy's "art" either, but I have to applaud him for his persistence and for his activism. SB needs more street art. Indeed. It IS a treat when you see something creative and unexpected in a public space.

@330302P It's similar to the difference between a glass of wine and a urine stain. @330315 As is readily discernable to anyone with principles, the principles are very different between the two.

OMG! Art! It will take your eye out! It's at eye level, runnnn! So scary! :) I love reading the comments, here. I took a stroll downtown last week and saw a couple of these. I also saw two bags of human poop (or the biggest dog in existence was here) about a zillion cigarette butts, numerous illegally posted fliers for clubs and stuff like that and a general plethora of other trash littering the streets. There were also unidentifiable pools of human gastric contents. But art? GET IT OUT NOW! Bah!
