Saw the gal in the vehicle before she pulled over she seemed to not realize it was her being pulled over..How could one not know? The pursuit vehicle a grey Ford SUV red lights in the front window. An Marked vehicle behind it. The vehicle is yellow looks like a Fiat but could be a Chevy one of those tiny ones..Anyway they got the Hit and Runner..

I've never understood why people don't think about their vehicles. Hey look at my, I'm driving a yellow Fiat, I'll blend right in! A few years ago a man stole some art work from a gallery I believe somewhere in Los Angeles and then hopped in his baby-blue porsche 911 and tried to get away. Interesting a man driving a porsche would steal artwork to begin with, but who knows.

A stoner, Roger? I thought stoners were supposed to make the safest drivers except when they don't notice running into a cyclist or cops with sirens and light ablazing on their tail. Must've been some quality herb.

Bicycle helmets are designed to protect from falling to the ground. Not being crushed by a ton of metal. Why is it when a bicyclist gets hit by a car, some edhaters have to make a helmet comment. As if the injury wouldn't have happened if the cyclist was responsible enough to have worn a helmet.

Not exactly smart pulling a hit-and-run a block from the sheriff's office. Makes the ride to jail kind of short, too.

Because being hit by a car usually means falling to the ground and hitting your head, not getting run over and crushed. Over 90% of the car-bicycle fatalities over the past 10 years have been riders without helmets. Helmets save lives. Period.

274 here again with an update. My wife's co-worker WAS the victim in this hit and run. He was wearing a helmet and is an extremely smart man and a safe bicyclist. So, 279, your theory seems to have been debunked.

Best wishes to the cyclist for a quick recovery. By the way, what do helmets have to do with this news? Not seeing the connection.

I don't think she was stoned at the time just resembles one manner of dress etc in reality shes probley as Christian as they come Christians sort of resemble stoners as many christian were stoned way back when...That being said I think she might have been cited and released because the last time I looked out she was walking around and not in cuffs..CHP was on scene with one Sheriffs vehicle. If it was her from what I saw maybe it was purely an accident.

My husband is the unfortunate victim of this hit & run. He is now in the hospital with shattered L1 vertebrae -amazing he was not paralyzed. He will need months to recover and will never be the same. As tragic as this was/is it could have been much much worse. He was in the bike bath, wearing a helmet and riding as safely as possible on this road – all that cannot negate careless driving. Bless all the good people of Santa Barbara who helped care for my husband this morning. Thank you for stopping to help. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

458: Glad to hear he is somewhat okay. Things like this scare me every day when I'm riding my bike. Please be safe out there, I see A TON of negligent driving as well as riding. A lot of people really don't realize the damage a car can inflict if one becomes complacent even for a second.

When my 30 something spandex-wearing bikey boyfriend ran into a vehicle exhaust pipe out near Rincon, speed approx 40 mph, the impact on the asphalt put a nasty gash in his head. No helmet. In the ER, I asked the Doc (in front of this "I don't need a helmet" boyfriend) to tell him why he should wear a helmet. The Doc, without missing a beat replied, "Oh, No. I'm not going to tell him that. Look how fit he is. His are the kind of organs we need from donors." Not talking about brain transplant, I suspect.
