Kitchen Duct Repair
updated: Oct 10, 2012, 11:35 AM
We need a duct installed in our kitchen for a range hood (7in or 10in) as the current duct is too small (4in).
The location of the current duct (it appears to go inside a wall and the attic doesn't have an opening in the
kitchen area for access) may make expanding the current duct unfeasible. Does anyone have any
recommendations for someone who could do this work? We are figuring a heater contractor may be the
way to go? Any shared experiences and recommendations on a job like this are greatly appreciated!

Do not use Adam Pinkham construction whatever you do! Doesn't pay his subs and end up with liens!

I would help but my last 2 Home Owners (large remodels) didn't pay of major remodels - so I closed the doors after 20 years - Yes I paid off all the subs with my own money -

Any good general contractor should be able to do a good job. Are you wanting to do the hood installation as a DIY project? If so, get a good roofer (Chuck Smith, for example) to install the roof jack, the top section of duct, the storm collar, and the cap. and do the rest yourself. If you are unsure about 7" or 10", the definitely go with 10".

Any HVAC contractor can install the duct and hood. You might need a roofing contractor also depending on what type of roofing you have. If it is tile for example, the roofer would have to pull off a small section of tile to enlarge the duct opening, rewaterproof it, then reinstall the tile. 060P my condolences for joining the ripped-off-by-a-roofing contractor club. Mine (SYVR) never finished the job, leaving an area of roof exposed for three months to last fall's rains. I had to have my very able handyman finish replacing tiles and plugging end caps, etc., after I bought more tile to finish the job that Scott would not, after more than a dozen phone calls. Turned out he was working with an expired license!
