Sounds on the Westside
updated: Oct 10, 2012, 8:38 AM

Anyone hear gunshots or fireworks on Westside near Mission at 2:33 a.m.? I am getting a lot better at distinguishing sounds. Too far away from me & too much uncertainty to call it in. Yes, it may well have been fireworks. I'm just on edge lately, as so many of us are.

I've heard it before, neighbors have said it's someone starting up an old truck that backfires. Why he does it in the early am is a mystery to me.

Why are you and "so many" others so on edge? That's the real question.

I slept right through it. That and the helicopters.

When in doubt, call it in - even if you'd feel more comfortable calling the non-emergency line. We all pay taxes (well...) and have the right to call the police when WE see fit, it's their job to determine if THEY see fit to send someone out.

You simply won't be taking the police away from something more important, which is a major reason I used to not call if it was something minor. Now though, I've realized, hey - if something more important than my problem comes up, the cops WILL go deal with that first. At least I'd hope :)

923, you'd be on edge too if you woke up to a bullet whizzing by your head.

There was no bullet, most likely. Just another scared white person in a mostly brown neighborhood. But relax, you're living in "paradise" right?

024 maybe you enjoy hearing loud cracks in the night, but most sensible people I know regardless of race enjoy a good nights sleep. anyway, what's your point with your racist fear mongering commentary?

I bet that's what woke me up at that hour! Of course, I live on the Mesa, but maybe it was a cannon?
