City Parking lot 5 at Chapala and Victoria, will be CLOSED tomorrow, 6am - 10am so it can be
reconfigured. The Victoria entrance will now be the EXIT. There will be fencing at the rear of the Victoria
Theater effectively blocking the Chapala exit. If you are an owner or employee of one of the businesses,
please park in the Granada Garage, freeing up spaces for customers.

Reconfigured usually means they are adding spaces to a lot that is already over loaded. Bring on the new door dings!

They are actually reducing the number of parking spaces in this lot.

My understanding is that Chapala (now enter/exit) will be enter-only, and Victoria (now enter-only) will be exit-only.

This is a temporary reconfiguration to make a staging area for trucks and supplies while remodeling the Old Vic for the Ensemble Theater Company. The contractor said it will take 8 months, so I'm guessing 12-18. They have already removed trees and closed off some parking spaces and placed a temporary exit kiosk at the Victoria St. entrance. I own a business served by that lot. All adjacent businesses pay the city for the upkeep of the lot, even though we have no parking privileges there. We were informed of this several months ago. Naturally they have scheduled the work to coincide with the holiday season, so we can be socked in the stomach economically a bit more, for good measure. We are the ones most impacted by this. I can't believe whoever wrote this psa felt a need to scold us in advance about taking spaces from customers. Those are our customers! Of course we want them to park there. We never park in that lot, anyway; it's too expensive to park there all day.
