What are some good Halloween activities in Santa Barbara? I'm thinking haunted houses, urban legends to explore, etc.

Trick or treat On the nice upper east side streets near mission. People used to make great houses and small haunted yards.

As for Urban legends, there is supposed to be a haunted abandoned asylum someone in the area. I tried to find it awhile ago but couldnt. Heard it was near the jail/ dump area

Near the mission the houses are far apart but they make up for it with good decorations and the best candy in town! For excitement, go to the area behind Peabody School, it will be PACKED with fun, that's our favorite :)

Westmont drama students will create a haunted house at 101 S. Quarentina that will be off the hook! It will also be a fundraiser for Pacific Pride. I assume it will be Oct. 26,27,28.

A guy named David Petry holds graveyard talks in the SB cemetery each year. He wrote a book about the SB Cemetery (The Best Last Place) and it sounds super interesting. It was mentioned on edhat a while ago when Billy Goodnick did an article on it. Looks like it will be the weekend prior to Halloween - check out his facebook page for details to reserve a spot for $15.

The Waldorf Halloween celebration is fun. From the website:

Waldorf of Santa Barbara Halloween Journey
Wednesday, October 31, 2012 - 6:00 PM

The Halloween Journey is an alternative way to celebrate this traditional holiday with young children. The Main Campus of the school is transformed into a magical land filled with fairy tale vignettes, rather than ghosts and gore. Visitors are welcomed with a bonfire, music and refreshments, and then led in small groups by their "Angel Guides" through this fantasyland. At each stop on the journey there is a magical performance to be enjoyed and a small treat to add to each child's goodie bag. This gathering is open to the public and is truly not to be missed.
