We live on Ocean Meadow Golf Course in Goleta and just had a golf ball come
through our bedroom window.
Do you know a company that is reliable and not to expensive to replace this window
??

Did the golfer fess up, or run away? I always wonder how often this happens to folks living on a golf course. Lemme guess -- are you on the 8th fairway?

NB.... I used to live across the street from the Muni course and even though they had a double high net to protect the neighbours there was always someone wanting to test their ability to launch one into the burbs. Not uncommon to have a ball fly out of nowhere. Nobody ever fesses up to these kinds of stupid pranks.

955, it might not be pranks! I was known to launch a few less-than-PGA-esque doozies in my day, when i was a beginner. I probably kept a few glass repair companies in business back in the day!

Likely the window costs less than the homeowner's insurance deductible and it's not worth filing the claim. It never is worth it to file unless the cost of repairs is a decent amount more than the deductible because you will lose your claims free discount for 3 years when you file a claim. If you file 2 claims in less than 3 years it will really cost you and you may have to find a new insurance company with more than 2 claims in 3 years, depending on what they were for. Lots of local glass companies can take care of the window for you.

I agree that this isn't really an insurance problem unless it was a huge picture window that will cost 4 figures to replace. The deductible is going to be higher than the cost. An occasional broken window is just one of those things you need to expect to absorb when living near a golf course. Of course, if you can find out who did it, go after them. Wouldn't hurt to ask the golf course to post a notice with the day/time/location. The person may be a good citizen and pay for the damages. They might have no idea they broke a window. Be extra sweet and get their contact info right off the bat. Then, if they get stubborn, you'll have what you need to file in small claims court if it's worth your time.

Coast Glass is awesome. We had a golfer actually confess and pay for the replacement window and he was from New York! We appreciated his honesty and generosity unlike the other golfers who broke and ran. FYI-- our home predates the course so you break, you are supposed to pay.

I'm curious about the legal aspects here. If a golfer breaks a window, is it really his responsibility to fix it? I would think it would be the golf course's liability. Interesting legal question. Anyone know the actual legal liability in such cases?

I had a family member who owned a course, when this happened the neighbor would call the office and it would be arranged and paid for by them not their neighbor. Their attractive nuisance and paying guest was who caused the damage therefore they paid for repair. They never had a problem doing it and it was a rarity for it to happen.

Nature Boy.... Found the guy he gave me his info. hope it's not fake. The guy lives in Culver City. Insurance deductible to high. It happened on the 9TH Fairway. Wish I could hit it that far. Golf Course says they are not liable as they were here first before our Condos chose to build here.

NATURE BOY - The golf course bears the liability. They can in turn try and track down the individual who hit the ball. Several years ago Muni got rid of a short par-3 that ran along Calle Real, mostly because too many people were hitting balls over the high fence and onto cars. Muni still has a problem with golfers hitting cars in the parking lot on #10 and cars on Macaw Ave. on #11. The worst golf course setup I've ever seen was one in Denver where every hole wound through houses, and you could see many kids' swingsets in the backyards just a few yards off the fairway.

Nature Boy - My understanding is that since the homeowner lives on a golf course, and broken windows are a known hazard, they are responsible for paying for the repairs. The course is not responsible, but some may do it out of good will. If you can get the golfer to do it, great, but legally he is also not responsible.

We lived on that golf course for years. First in the condos and then in a home. Many many broken windows later, I would choose ocean glass. They were awesome. The golf course pays if your house was there before the course. You pay if your house came after the course.
