October 7, 2012 - Another Day, Another Sunset
At the top of the news, we would like to thank all you Edhat supporters who generously responded to Peter Sklar's letter last
week. Subscribers renewed memberships, paid for new memberships, even sent us money just because. We would also like to thank the people who
offered to volunteer their time for computer work, site monitoring, writing, and dog walking. Wow! It is so nice to know there are so many kind people
out there. And it is especially nice that they are our friends.
A couple of things: Roger, we are not threatening to shut down Edhat. We just need resources to clean up and maintain the
software that was created over nine years ago and has been a bit ignored in favor of our having the single focus of building the best community
website in the world. We're trying to make sure to build a sustainable model that will keep us going into the future. Another thing; we got some jabs for
having Edhats in other communities. A couple of years ago we thought we could expand into other areas without increasing our costs. That much was
true. Our Super Duper software and our Super Duper dedicated staff are able to run multiple websites without pushing the budget. But we chose not to
spend the time and energy necessary to build readership and sell advertising in those other areas. Maybe someday. But for now, their pretty pictures
sit on our front page.
One more thing. If there's blood in the water, the sharks will come. Evidently, members of other local media outlets read
Edhat! And to them we would like to paraphrase Mark Twain and say that rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated.
So once again, thank you for your support. Because of you, we hope to be around for a long time.
The Dog of the Week this week is JoJo, who could just be that special someone in your life; the Cat of the Week is Cleo, the
dancing kitty. The Urban Hikers set out to find re-purposed gas stations; Marc Liberts brings us Pinot Part II. The Contest this week involves a slice of
pizza, and Edda took the week off to perform some court appointed community service. She'll be back next week.

|
URBAN HIKE: With the sudden spike in
gas prices the Urban Hikers pay homage to
"repurposed" service stations. Today
most of the area's old service station buildings serve other purposes, like a rug store, restaurants, a dry
cleaner, a locksmith and more. |

|
WINE: Marc Liberts shares Episode 2 in his
debate of Pinot Noir, California versus Oregon.
|

|
CAT OF THE WEEK: Meet Cleo, the dancing kitty. |

|
DOG OF THE WEEK: Meet JoJo, the lovable foster dog that is up for
adoption. |
