I believe today was the the Planning Commission meeting for Casa Esperanza's permit renewal. Can
anyone report on how it went?

The neighborhood made a strong case, and showed what a really bad neighbor the shelter is. The Planning Commissioners were itching to do something. Commissioners Lodge, Jordan and Schwartz all tried to come up with follow-up action to help the neighborhood. The staff made it like they couldn't do anything, which frustrated the commissioners. But it was clear that a management change, at a minimum, is needed at Casa Esperanza.

There is a reason this is the worst place to live in town.

But it doesn't have to be. What neighbors tolerate, you get more of. So stop tolerating already! The Eastside has HUGE benefits: great restaurants, schools, easy hop to the beach, great markets, and more. You let guys drink there and panhandle you, get more of it. Stand up for your neighborhood! Let them know they can't treat it badly on your watch!

Why is there such a proclivity among some city officials and leaders to glorify and romanticize the abhorrent behavior and actions pervasive on the Milpas corridor?

At least, as a result of the neighborhood complaints, the city has hired a professional facilitator to try to get CE to work with the neighbors through the Milpas Action Task Force. Let's hope it works!
