Chainsaws Hit Carpinteria
updated: Oct 04, 2012, 8:34 AM
By David Powdrell
Well, we didn't see it coming, but our neighbors at the Carpinteria State Campground have fired up the
chainsaws and are in the process of removing 51 massive eucalyptus trees. For the month of October,
much of the state park (Santa Rosa and San Miquel campgrounds) will be closed as they remove the trees.
Evidently falling eucalyptus branches and unsuspecting campers don't mix. The liability exposure was too
great for the California State Park.
Selfishly, the wife and I are going from having marginal ocean views at our abode to having some sweet
ocean views, so we got that going for us.
I got a few photos of some of the chainsaw crew; some perched 100' in the air. It's pretty remarkable
watching these guys juggle ropes, chainsaws and massive tree limbs at such wild heights.
