Magnolia Shopping Center Area Construction
updated: Oct 03, 2012, 3:01 PM

I've been hearing a lot of construction noise and jack hammering all day long near
the Magnolia Shopping Center area. Does anyone know what type of construction is
going on and how long it's going to last?

Bring that you're in ear shot, you're probably in the best position to answer this. Can you take a peek outside and look?

OP here, it's actually not visible from where I am, so I'm not quite sure where it's coming from. I will probably drive around and take a look later on, but I can't right now. Just thought others might actually see it from where they are, have driven past, or know more.

I'm not an expert, but I'm guessing construction.

Some people like to know what is going on in their communities before they have an ability to actually go and investigate for themselves. Nothing wrong with a thread like this; that's what the point of a community forum is, right?

435--Thanks for your wisdom. Sometimes, it seems, there are those among us who just can't fathom being curious or inquisitive.

I find it informative to hear that construction is going on in that shopping center. Thanks for posting. I'll probably avoid it for a little bit.

A couple of thoughts that apply to most Edhat comments: 1) This is a community site where anyone can ask anything. If it's not of interest to you that's okay and you don't need to be offended. 2) Maybe the OP is disabled, elderly or sick and they can't go outside. Someone shouldn't have to explain WHY they asked the question, see #2. 3) Instead of berating the OP for asking a simple question, maybe just ignore it if you think it's beneath you because others may be interested in the answer. 4) I travel a lot and I love to read edhat from afar to keep abreast on whats happening around town. 5) Be nice or be silent.

461 - I can't tell if you have real info about the project or not. Are you involved in the project, and do you have more details (what/where/when)? Info like this is exactly why I come to Edhat, a place where locals share info about what's going on in their local community that can't be found easily elsewhere.

I live nearby but work all day so I haven't heard any construction but I am curious to know what going on. There was a fire at Ralph's a few days ago so this may have something to do with it?

OP reporting back. The construction is at the Shell station at the corner of Hollister and Walnut. They still seem to be open, but they've dug up part of the concrete on one side of the station. Not sure what they are doing or how long they will be working on it.

Noticed last night that the Shell was closed off with all driveways blocked by yellow tape and trucks from an environmental services company (sorry, can't remember which one) with activity centered near the car wash in back. My guess would be either the contents of a broken barrel of car washing detergent is being removed from the soil, or a leaky pipe or tank was detected (they can detect gas seeping into the outer layer of the double walled pipes and tanks they put in when it was rebuilt a number of years back)
