Home Disconnect
updated: Oct 03, 2012, 11:37 AM

In the last two weeks my husband and I suddenly began experiencing poor (Verizon) cell phone service on our regular (feature phone) cell phones and our Home Connect ($20/month) cell phone service, using 3 different phones. They access service through CDMA channels. We have experienced voices dropping out repeatedly in a call and staticky stuff. We live on the Westside but this persists when we are elsewhere in town. We have some friends who live in Hidden Valley who have the same problem with their Home Connect. Are others now having this problem with their Verizon cell phone service?

Yes yes yes!!! I have an iPhone and had so many dropped calls I called Verizon. They said it didn't seem to be the network so they had me run a bunch of tests, (including *228 send) to check roaming. Then they had me reset it back to factory setting and reload the phone from my iCloud. Took forever! Didn't help the problem. I have the iPhone 4 and get the iPhone 5 on Oct 7th. Hoping by switching to 4LTE the coverage will be better and the calls won't be dropped. Very frustrating since Verizon is the only carrier that works in my area(Cathedral Oaks). Good luck OP!

I no longer deal with Verizon. Problems were frequent and it was impossible for their representatives to speak honestly. Their internet service kept getting worse and they insisted that I could never have achieved the data rates that I experienced for the previous year.

Yes! I live up by the lake and have really noticed the issue with my home phone connect. Something has got to be going on with the signal. I have had Verizon for over 10 years and it has never been like this.

Seems like ever since the iPhone 5 launched, my 3G connectivity has been unreliable. I figure Verizon is trying to force me to upgrade to the 5 with 4G. But I love my 4S.

All Verizon has to do is switch out a few key antenna from 3G to 4G and you will see these problems. This is what happened. And it has everything to do with them wanting you to upgrade your phone.

We dumped them years ago. Verizon is an embarressment to America. Try Metro PCS.

Good luck getting 4G in Santa Barbara. I signed up for Verizon service and was guaranteed I would have the fastest 4G service available. I actually got spotty 4G and 3G that dropped to 2G if I was moving while accessing the internet. After many calls to Verizon they finally forwarded me to their "Executive Offices" where I was told there is no 4G services in Santa Barbara but they are hoping to have it soon. They tried to charge me for early termination but I persisted and they finally had enough and let me cancel without charging. I will never use Verizon for anything after this experience. None of the reps know what they are talking about and will say anything to sell you something and get you into a product. Then once you are in good luck if you have issues.

Almost 383... they're merging and effective what is really happening is Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile's parent comapny) is buying 74% of Metro PCS. Pending approval of course.

My home phone with Verizon has gone out for two days each twice in six weeks. Tried to use my Verizon cell to call it in and it took a full battery each time without actually getting to speak to anyone. Then I just called Verizon cell to cell and had so much static that we gave up after trying twice for a clear line. So smoke signals or two tin cans and string are next!

327393 - None of what's being shlocked out is true 4G. Including LTE. But they all quacked and flew and had feathers and bills, so they were deemed worthy enough to be called "4G". Nothing but a marketing ploy.

@389 I get 18Mbps at my house and in most populated locations in town using T-Mobile. It may not be true 4G, but 3.5G ain't too shabby when I only get 13M over my home wifi.

I lost a Verizon long distance land line call today. I made the call, and the person on the other end didn't get a dial tone when the call dropped. If I can say it "dropped" on a land line. Nice to know, in a way, that it's not just me. (grumble)

After months of frustrating dropped calls in Puesta del Sol area I called AT&T and got a scripted runaround. Neighbors with Verizon have few problems in our area - AT&T mentioned almost a year ago they'd have better reception in this area, didn't happen in May as was told. Now they're saying May, 2013. They're trying to blame the operating system, the Iphone, etc. A "report" was documented. It's hard to trust anymore.

Hmmm. My iPhone 4 has been sketchy also; during a conversation it just blanks out and then I get every other word or so (like bad reception, though I have full bars) and then I'm back in the conversation. I'm up in Santa Maria... Glad (sort of) to hear (pun intended) that it's not just me... I figured one of two things: I'd dropped my phone too often and it was finally dying, or two, the lifetime of the phone is over (since I'm due for an upgrade this month surprise surprise)....

Ditto here - horrible reception over the last couple of weeks and I had almost spotless reception prior to that. Also - more dropped calls - I've probably had less than 3 dropped calls on Verizon in the last 5 years, but I've had close to 10 the last couple of weeks! I thought it was due to the recent iPhone "upgrade" but interesting to hear it is happening with other Verizon phones and internet...I think I'll give them a call - not hopeful they will actually fix anything, but certainly better to have all of these complaints logged - enough complaints and it hits the news and then they're forced to really look at it - that's what eventually happened with the iPhone antenna issue a year or so ago...

LTE is data only, voice is handled by 3G. (That's why LTE on Verizon still can't do voice and data simultaneously.)
