September 30, 2012 - Buddy, Can You Spare a Dime?

The topic most discussed on Edhat this week was the problem of panhandlers. You can always find out the hottest topics and the most viewed news stories on Edhat by clicking on the links on the news page. The most viewed story this week was our pictures of the Space Shuttle. And the top commented story was the one about panhandlers.

Now we all know there is a problem here, and we're searching for a solution. But no one agrees on just how big the problem is, or what the solution should be. All we can do as engaged citizens is vote for a candidate who raised taxes, but didn't pay their own. According to a relentless barrage of back-to-back TV ads - it was the other guy, or gal, as the case may be.

Ed, with a mouthful of sour grapes, wants to know why all of the Candidates' party-supplied campaign money is going to TV advertising and not to Santa Barbara's best website. OMG! They don't pay taxes and they don't read Edhat? I'll bet they don't even have a dog.

So, enjoy your week, fellow Santa Barbarians. Next Sunday there will be another most popular topic on Edhat, more Adorable pets of the week, and more important problems that might never be solved.

But we are ahead of ourselves!

The Dog of the Week this week is Rooney, a TV hound; The Cat of the Week is Zippy Lu Lu Kipper Horacio Mc Sparks, the cat with the longest name in Edhat history. The Non-Profit of the Week is WORLD DANCE SANTA BARBARA, a Thrilling event! Edda answers a technical query, Marc Liberts continues his never-ending quest to learn more about wine, our Teen Voice, Kelsey Abkin talks about college applications, and Lauren celebrates her mom's birthday!.

---- Edhat Stuff ----------------------------------

Lauren: This week Lauren was captivated by Bonnie Raitt and celebrated her mom's birthday. Oh and also drank some wine, shocker.

ASK EDDA: Dear Edda, My husband is a high powered executive who works all the time. He leaves his office and comes home, but then he spends hours on the phone.

NON-PROFIT OF THE WEEK: Each year, on the Saturday before Halloween, thousands of people around the world perform Michael Jackson's "Thriller" at exactly the same moment to raise money for charity while having a fabulous time.

WINE: Marc Liberts continues his never-ending quest to learn more about wine, this time comparing Pinot Noir from California and Oregon.

CAT OF THE WEEK: Meet Zippy Lu Lu Kipper Horacio Mc Sparks, the cat with the longest name in Edhat history.

DOG OF THE WEEK: Meet Rooney, the television watching cattle herder.

Here is the Sunday Edhat newsletter for 09/29/12

WHERE IS IT?: No one found the WWII picture last time. Maybe this week's picture is easier.
