Nine of America's wealthiest people live in or around Santa Barbara.
Larry Ellison, 68. founder of computer software company Oracle, - who
has three homes here -, is at number three on the Forbes magazine Top
400 list with an estimated worth of $41 billion, a hefty gain of $8 billion on
2011.
Google honcho Eric Schmidt, 57, is valued at $7.5 billion, a gain of $1.3
billion on last year, ranking him at number 45, while Texan tycoon Harold
Simmons, 81, who flies between his 27-acre Montecito estate and his
Dallas mansion, is worth $7.1 billion at number 49.
Carpinteria based Star Wars director George Lucas, 68, is at number 120
with $3.3 billion, while TV titan Oprah Winfrey, 58, is at 151 with $2.7
billion.
Beanie Baby tycoon Ty Warner,68, owner of the Biltmore and the San
Ysidro Ranch, is valued at $2.4 billion in 190th place, while mall magnate
Herb Simon, 77, is worth $2.2 billion, up from $1.6 billion in 2011, ranking
him at 218.
Cell phone innovator Craig McCaw, 63, ex husband of News-Press owner
Wendy McCaw who recently bought the world's most expensive Ferrari
for $35 million, is listed at 311 with $1.5 billion....
