San Marcos Pass Chaos

Very disturbing incident on San Marcos Pass: There have been some long delays on the pass due to "construction" although I never saw any real work being done. They are closing down to one lane for about 1/2 mile using "leader trucks" and flagmen. Yesterday I was the first car behind the leader truck, there were about 40 cars behind me and the truck had us going about 25 miles an hour on the wrong side of the road. Then the unbelievable happened, coming around a bend at about 65 miles an hour were 5 cars coming at us in "our" lane. The leader truck and I were able to pull over. The speeding cars ended up going up on the shoulder of the road. It was chaos and a miracle that a big crash did not happen. But HOW did this happen? It was frightening.
