Does anyone know if there are any open Mahjong games being played
regularly in Santa Barbara? I'm new to the area and looking for a group to
join

There is a day game played in Carpinteria every week; I know of no evening games. I tried to teach a few folks, but coordinating schedules became problematic and the game dropped off. I play infrequently with a group in Ventura, when I can make the time to drive there.

Thank you EdHat Barbara! Any idea where that game in Carpinteria is or a contact number I can call?

The Carpinteria game is played at the mobile home park near the salt marsh -- I forget the name of the community. Someone once gave me a phone number for a contact if I wanted to play. I'll see if I can find it; if I can, I'll post it.

I remembered that there was an earlier thread on this subject! If you search under "mahjong" (this spelling exactly), you will find it. I found this post: We have a Carpinteria group that plays the American version every Monday 1-4pm at Sandpiper Mobile Home Park. If you already know how to play, come join us! I taught this group, and now we have 3 tables going. I'd be happy to teach a new group too. Contact me at peace dot choice dot equality at gmail dot com. So, there you go!

Are you an experienced player? Do you know anyone else interesting in learning to play?

Yes, I am an experienced player; have been playing since I was 14 (and am now . . . ahem, "mature"). I work full time, however, and tried to gather a group to teach in the evenings, but was not able to keep a steady schedule matching everyone's needs, so it fell apart. Don't know enough folks to start up and try again, unfortunately.
