Monday-Monday Soooo Good to Meeeeee, I forgot the rest of the words sorry. Any of you read the Letters to the Editor in Sundays News Suppress? Alan Bleeker and Bruce Giffin were Right On. They know what goes on down on Milpas they see it every day. I wrote last week about the guy who had a camp behind the property at 211 South Milpas. There was an unattended warming fire smoldering there all day long I could smell it not seeing any smoke or flame I just let my neighbor know about it I figured he lives there. He called his wife, she called 911 they came out put out the fire, and the camp shelter was dismantled. The next day I noticed everything was gone I thought it was nice of the person to clean up their mess. On Saturday night one of the neighbors asked me to keep an eye on their place as they had to go to work in the evening, I did and nothing seemed amiss until daylight. I noticed that the fence that McDonald Animal Hospital put up was tore back down not only that but the center post was tore out of the ground. It wasn't secure with cement or concrete to begin with but it was secure enough to stand on its own.
I really don't care if people sleep outside some people have to do it they don't have a home; I have been there and know what it's like. SNOT everyone in life is successful at most things they do. Even so they should leave things as they found them, Respect the ground don't be vandalizing the place. I understand the frustration on both sides of this issue I know what it's like to be a failure in life to not be able to get off the street without help. I also know what it's like to live in a home and have to clean up after other people that have no respect for others. As far as the Cacique Street Shelter goes I think it should be run by a Faith Based Organization. It seems to me that places like the Rescue Mission on Yanonali and the Salvation Army on Chapala take responsibility for their clients in the neighborHOODS. They also have successful programs that help people to stay sober and not return to the streets. This again is just my opinion that doesn't mean SQUAT but I'm entitled to it. I will say I did some disrespectful things when I was a drunk but I never went Poopy on the street anywhere I always found a bathroom for that even if I had to wait. As far as number one went I found a place to go yea, a lot of the time it was outside but never right on the street in front of other people, to me that is like committing a sex offense.
The other night I fell asleep watching the Bucket List, I really wanted to see the whole movie instead I think I dreamed my version of it. I was 74 years old living in McKenzie Park. I was on the sauce and on the needle all my friends and all my cats were dead and hopefully waiting for me on the other side. I wore Blue Jeans, a Brown leather jacket, and a light blue knit cap the blue cap was my most prized possession, I looked like Charlie Bukowski. The neighborhood was in shambles it was very rough there is no neighborHOOD in the Santa Barbara area that looks as bad as this place did. It was like South Chicago but everyone was friendly and I was well taken care of out there on the streets. Communities of homeless people usually take pretty good care of their own. It's people outside the community you usually have to watch out for.
I heard a call on Sunday involving a 72 Year old man in Chase Palm Park, who was assaulted. One officer asked another if the elderly man might be helped by another police officer who helps people get off the street. I cried when I heard that the elderly man could be a possibility. Dreams are dreams but they don't all come true. Many of the homeless traveling to and thru Santa Barbara are predators and think nothing of beating up those weaker than themselves to get a drink or a fix. Times have changed it's not like it was in the old days when campers respected the ground, and other people. It's scary out there for those who cannot take care of themselves. All homeless shelters in Santa Barbara need to be responsible and accountable for things that happen in the surrounding neighborhood. I think there should be a board of people that oversee all of the shelters to make sure they perform the duties required of them. That is just my opinion it doesn't mean SQUAT but I'm entitled to it. For Heaven's sakes we need to get these Elderly people off the streets many of them were there for us at one time or another, many are veterans. I wish there was some way we could all agree and things would work out but it seems that one shelter operator doesn't want to work with people in the neighborHOOD Instead he chooses to blame everyone. Until one chooses to work with others even those they disagree with there can be no Peace.
