Well, it would help if you mentioned where exactly, since SB is pretty sprawling.

But they have been having a lot of military practice in the past few months. I wouldn't be surprised if what she saw was part of that and involved larger military planes.

If they were 747s or 707s, we'd have heard something about it on the news, since those are strictly passenger/commercial airliners.

Yesterday around 5PM it smelled really bad like aviation fuel. Not sure if anyone else smelled it too? I live in the Noleta area.

Depends on which way the wind is blowing, you can smell the jet exhaust from the airport miles away. It doesn't happen very often though.

It also happens when a jet dumps fuel from the air.

323436 - there have been a number military and non-passenger versions of both the 707 and the 747, and in fact military medivac versions of the 707 predate the commercial passenger versions. 737's and other Boeing big jets also had military versions, and pretty much every McDonnel Douglas passenger plane starting with the DC-3 had well-known military or non passenger versions at one time or another. "Air Force One" was originally a 707 and I believe the current model is a customized 747.
