Finance Split

Dear Edda,
My girlfriend and I have been living together for almost a year now. I think we are headed to be married
someday. We have a dog.
Even though we are close, my girlfriend insists that we split the rent and the bills evenly. So, every
month we need to calculate our respective shares. We also keep track of the groceries. And don't think
that it hasn't come up more than once that I eat more. Even dog food is 50-50.
My question is; when will this end? I'm so sick of dividing up the bills and not having a joint checking
account. I'm sure some day we'll be together, so what's the point? For now her attitude makes me feel
uncomfortable, like maybe she's not committed to this relationship. Or, maybe she is just too much of
a control freak or territorial for us to proceed with our relationship.
