What sort of information are you interested in? I'd suspect you might be served by attending the meeting.

According to the City of Goleta's project list. It belongs to the Islamic Society of Santa Barbara and has a 'pending approval' status.

I too love diversity of which we have little in Carpinteria. I sure do not want our area to be closed minded like other mid-west and some New York communities. I admit I do not know the land use implications but socially I am for a mosque of the "right" size and neighborhood compatibility.

I welcome this mosque to our area. Islam is a valid religion just like Christianity, Catholicism, Hinduism, Judaism, etc... You can find fundamental fanatics in all of them that does not invalidate them, IMHO.

This mosque has been in the planing stages for a few years now. There's a wonderful story about it at the Independent's website dated May 20, 2010. To find the article, just Google on:

No, not politically correct, but intelligent and worldy-wise. The average person in any country in the world wants the same thing - a happy family life and a good job. As can be seen in the ME now, many are striving to obtain those wishes, breaking out from suppression imposed by autocratic governments, that have in many cases been supported by Westerners. Judging any people by those who make most noise is much like judging America at that time, by the KKK, or any radical group.

Here is a video from many different voices:

Having traveled all over the world, from SE Asia, Central and S America, Europe and China, I can tell you first hand that the "Muslim Invasion" of Western Europe is complete. The "European" cultures, from the English, German, Danish, Swedish and Belgian have all but vanished. The Shiria Law (women have NO rights), is coming to all those countries within 20 years. Why and how? The majority of the voting public WILL BE of the Muslim faith. The Muslims are the only people who are procreating at an alarming rate. Those countries mentioned, were all the "liberal and politically correct" nanny states that the immigrants flocked to. Now, school teachers in elementary school can no longer mention or reference the animal called a "pig..." Schools across Western Europe are altering their curriculum in the name of being politically correct and non offensive to Muslims-The Muslims have DEMANDED it. They have lost their freedom of speech...

323344 here--Oops - I read the first paragraph in the May 2010 SB Independent article referenced in these comments. Should have read it before posting. Women will be allowed inside the Goleta one. I've been to ones in other countries where women were definitely not allowed inside. Sorry if I made anyone mad; I couldn't delete the post or add this comment until an hour had gone by since I'm a non-paying member.

I'm happy to see a mosque in Goleta, but the planned location is unfortunate: inside Lake Los Carneros Park. Obviously it's not actually in the Park, as the land belongs to the Islamic Society (and is zoned commercial), but it will block the pedestrian entrance on the SW corner and build over land that is currently being used as "park." It will interfere with the White Tailed Kites and Cooper's Hawks nesting areas and I still can't quite understand how they'll fit 44 parking spots in addition to the building. It's really too bad this project couldn't have been planned for a more appropriate location where the environmental impact would be lower.

I am not happy about getting a mosque here. I just don't trust Muslims. I know, I should be more open minded and PC. I am not.
I have seen what that religious belief has done to once proud, advanced civilizations around the world. It isn't pretty. I also question non-Muslims who are falling all over themselves to say how open minded and tolerant they are with these people, but wouldn't last a second if they had to live under Muslim theocratic rule.
I will just shut up now, having said my piece.

California community property rights were imported from Moorish Spain and their Islamic family law protections, so women very much have rights under Sharia domestic principles.

Educate yourself first before trashing a fairly enlightened religion. Mohamed's wife was a business woman of independent means and more Islamic countries today have had female Presidents or heads of state, than you can count on one hand in the US.

Will the mosque be allowed to use outdoor loudspeakers for the call to prayer? I was in Morocco years ago and I heard those speakers blaring loudly several times a day. By the way, I LOVE it when some on this board mention that they'd rather ......insert something horrible here.... than eat at Chik-fil-A.

355 does not "speak the truth" so much as speaks the paranoid rhetoric of the moment.

Have you seen this first hand? Or have you just decided to buy into the party line that Muslims are evil and are taking over Christians at a rapid rate?

Please. Our world has many different cultures, beliefs and religions. None are better or worse than the next and if you are foolish enough to buy into the idea that one is worse than the next and is taking over, I feel sorry for you.

I'm happy a mosque is being built. That's progress. And I'm an atheist.

I had no idea it would be 2 story tall up to 35' nor did i know it would be so large covering 7572 sqft.I hope the daily outdoor loadspeakers call to prayer won't be heard 2 or 3 times a day for all the residents who live close by. Why couldn't this be located by marketplace or Kmart?

I think it would have had a better location on the corner of Storke and Hollister where that empty field and building has been for 10+ years. I think it is in a bad location. This is going to have a huge impact on all the people that live in the neighborhoods around there. It's to bad the residences
and people who have homes around the park reserve didn't know about this until it was already done.

There are big churches all over the nice residential areas of Santa Barbara--upper east, upper west, San Roque--and they haven't done anything to destroy the neighborhoods. I don't see how this one is going to do any damage in Goleta. I can understand concern about building on an undeveloped piece of land adjacent to a wild park area, but I can't believe people would presume to comment on the suitability or acceptability of the religion being practiced there. This is the USA. As long as they operate according to land use rules, they're good to go.

The Mosque/Center already has approval. The current hearing is to relocate the building to change the traffic flow. It is in an awkward location for ingress/egress. I think the new layout is the result of the new Traffic Circle.

Estimated time of this item on the Agenda is 5:15.

Edhat- Please delete everything unrelated to the building and building site. 80% of these are BS.

LouWho? - You may have missed the below recent publication by the Islamic Society of Santa Barbara in both the Santa Barbara News Press and the Independent. I know many of the people (I have been in their homes and they in mine) in this congregation, I have attended some of their Friday services, I have taken a class from the outstanding young Imam - and I can tell you first hand that what they have written below is totally congruent with my experience of these people. I live .8 miles from the Center/Mosque, I welcome them into my neighborhood and would be delighted to have any of their members as my neighbor. I have known well Afaf (and her husband Mukthar Khan - co-founders of the Islamic Society of Santa Barbara some 30 or so years ago) the writer of their paper - having first met her doing a Habitat of Humanity Interfaith project together five or so years ago.

No Harm for Harm

Santa Barbara Independent, Wednesday, September 19, 2012

by AFAF TURJOMAN, SANTA BARBARA

The Islamic Society of Santa Barbara, as all Muslim organizations across the nation, condemns in the strongest possible terms the extremist attacks on U.S. diplomatic compounds in Libya and Egypt on Tuesday, September 11th, one of which killed U.S. ambassador to Libya Christopher Stephens along with three of his staff members. We grieve along with the rest of our nation over these tragic deaths. Protests and violence that began in Egypt and Libya have now spread to Yemen, Sudan, and beyond.

The parties responsible for these events claimed to be reacting to an online film considered offensive to Islam.

As with previous instances, of Danish cartoons or Qur’an burning, it is important to emphasize that it is a greater defamation of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad and the Qur’an to react with violence and the murder of innocent people – one of the greatest sins in Islam – than any claimed insult from an Islamophobic film. Those who responded in such a manner should instead study the Prophet Muhammad’s example in the face of harm. Muhammad was exposed to demeaning abuse on a daily basis for 13 years during the early years of his mission. Hi... [ more ]

Before supporting the development of a mosque in the community, learn something about Islam and know that a mosque is NOT like a church or synagogue.

In the course of praying the required five daily prayers, Muslims recite the Fatihah, the first sura of the Koran 17 times, thus cursing Christians and Jews 17 times daily or over 6,000 times annually. Educate yourself at www.politicalislam.com and www.jihadwatch.com. (Fully 64% of the Koran talks about what to do to infidels or non-Muslims).

A mosque is the center of life in a Muslim community. It serves as a school, a court, a community center, a jihad training base and often a weapons depot. Research how mosques are used in the Middle East and North Africa and the millions of Christians that are being slaughtered and persecuted by devout Muslims.

Learn about the required Islamic doctrine of taqiyya, or deception of the non-Muslim.

Don't be ignorant and pat yourself on the back for being multi-culti while placing your family and friends in danger from a totalitarian, supremacist, misogynistic, triumphalist doctrine whose goal is to create a worldwide Islamic caliphate under medieval shari'ah law.

Two important articles at American Thinker that are MUST reads: "A Mosque is Not Like a Church or a Synagogue" and "NOT the Little Mosque on the Prairie."

Educate yourself about Islam. As a prominent American Muslim stated, "Islam is not in America to be equal to any other faith but to become dominant. The Koran, the Muslim book of scripture, should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth."

Don't let political correctness render you willfully blind to the greatest threat to Western civilization since the Cold War.
