Costco did a great job converting our wedding video from VHS to digital. Cheap, too.

Used to be a guy in town, DAC Video that did it, not sure if he's still around. Used to be where the Kidney Center built their new building, and last I saw he had an office around the 1300-1400 block of State.

Dan from DAC Video is still here, and still a great guy. He's located near the Arlington - walk up State just past the Arlington & you'll see a sign for DAC next to a staircase. He's at the top of the staircase on the right.

Does anyone know roughly how much Costco or Dan from DAC Video charge? I am not the OP, but would love to convert some old family videos.

I used to do video conversions but costco priced me out. They charge $18 per tape. They will let you combine 2 tapes to a DVD if needed. There's a $5 coupon in the costco coupon pack this month.

I had a couple of old super 8 movies converted to DVD by Costco a few years ago. Good price but rotten result! They splice them all together, so you get a single reel back. Their transfer was "dirty" (dust and other debris on the image which was probably avoidable) and the sprockets jumped the track during the transfer and they did not correct this. Very shoddy. The film was in good condition when I sent it in. Their VHS transfer might be better, but I would be wary.

A fellow named Scott who runs ads in the Independent and Montecito paper does it for $10. He did a half dozen for me and did it overnight. Nice guy 969-6500. (No, I'm not Scott)

Take it to At Your Service Video. Jeff Azevedo has been doing format conversions locally for decades. He's one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Call him at 805-452-3835. Tell him that Chris referred you.

My son has a business to support his computer endeavors converting VHS to whatever format you need as well as cassette into CD or MP3 format. His prices are reasonable and his service is impeccable! :) Check him out at www.ReynoldsOffice.Biz

Costco for "quick and dirty" DAC for reasonably priced professional. There are a few folks working out of their homes who are not quite pro grade, but they are better than Costco but still cheaper than a true pro. Word of mouth (or Edhat) is usually the best way to find them. What Costco does not do is: 1) clean original films or test VHS tapes for wrinkles and other things that distort images, 2) correct brightness, contrast, and gamma curves, 3) color correct for lighting and aging of films, 4) add chapter breaks (except when switching between tapes), 5) reduction of audio noise and sound level correction, 6) video noise reduction (for VHS) and grain interpolation (for films) A pro will do any of these for a price, and a semi-pro working out of their home will generally do some of these and work with you on the cost.

I am glad that there are independent people doing this service. I had similar done years ago converting my dad's 8mm home movies to dvd. I took it to Tony Rose Camera and they did a great job. Alas, they are no longer in business. I would try Samy's Camera. They may be able to do it. They do a great job printing large pictures and posters from a digital file.

Do any of these services include the change of VHS commercial movies to DVD or just or just family type videos? WalMart offers the service of VHS to DVD but does not include commercial movies.
