Scanner Reports 9-21-12
updated: Sep 21, 2012, 7:00 AM

By Roger the Scanner Guy

FRYday again. Seems like just last week was FRYday here we are again so soon. I smelled something burning on Thursday as I was taking out the trash It smelled like it could have been a structure so I walked around the property a bit. There are several other cottages on the property where I live and we all kind of watch out for each other. On the other side of the fence between the property and the freeway was a campsite I knew it's been there a while the guy doesn't bother anyone so I leave him alone. I looked over the fence toward his camp, nothing no one was there and I saw no smoke but there was a strong odor of wood burning. I went in the back of 211 South Milpas and looked around behind their dumpster. The chain link fence was smooshed down a bit, no smoke over there either. I just told my neighbor in back about it I figured he had a right to know he wanted me to call his wife and tell her but I'm not married to her so I didn't. 20 minutes go by I hear this illegal burn call go out behind 25 South Milpas that would be like behind Trader Joes they are 29 South Milpas. I thought that was pretty far away I wondered if it was the same fire I smelled. Engine 2 did not find anything over there. About that time my neighbor is at the door looking excited like he had to pee or something, he said he called his wife and she called 911. I figured out it was the same fire I was smelling about that time Engine 2 says over the Scanner Unable to Locate. I called them and told them where it was I didn't really want to but there was something burning close by and big or small the camper left a fire unattended just on the other side of the fence. If it had been a windy day his fire that he left unattended could have gotten out of hand.

Engine 2 personnel showed up along with SBPD, parked over at 211 where there is plenty of room and headed over the back fence where there was a small active fire. They put out the fire and along with SBPD dismantled the camp. I don't like calling 911 anymore especially after the incident a couple weeks ago but sometimes you have to call. People give you no other choice. I have an Idiot Box now. It's been over 2 years since I've had cable. The other night I fell asleep with the remote in my hand while watching Titanic for about the 4,000th time. It's kinda nice watching the idiot box again.
