Morning Movies

I remember the Camino Real movie theater used to have special morning screenings once a week that
parents could bring their young children to. Do any local theaters still do this?

Great idea! That way fidgety & loud kids can stay out of the theaters during prime time when we evening movie goers drop the big bucks to enjoy a flick. In fact, they could have a special Cell Phone Addicts screening mid-afternoon where people could text & yak their hearts out during the movie. Cool

102P - try Netflix. That way you can watch kid's movies all alone and no one will bother you.

I think the Calle Real Center one used to do it Tuesdays at 10 am. Personally I think they should have a time you could bring your dog too.

They should have a time where you can bring kids and your own food, instead of paying top price for garbage food!! Although I do get sucked in to buying a large icee for 6 bucks everytime!!

Perfect 110. Why not just have a 10 am screening for all things noisy & distracting? Seriously, that way the lady with her "sneaked-in-the-purse miniature canine, the wailing kids who can't sit still past 10 minutes, the people who can't live a minute without their dog (the ones that take Rover on every vaca & road trip), & the addicted cell phone users can all have at it. Woot!

110 - Nice, except that would be illegal as pets are not allowed in businesses. And FYI: Pets are not children, even if you push them around in a stroller. I have both and they're not even in the same realm.

Seeing movies on a giant screen as they were meant to be seen is not the same as renting on NetFlix (and God forbid we should leave our homes.)

SB has always been children UNFRIENDLY. Not so fun being a kid here and now being a parent. I don't take my kids to movies unless it's a Disney flick and there will be a million other children there also. It's very expensive to hire a sitter, pay for movie tickets and then the food. So I just don't go to movies. Doesn't matter if they offer a week day time because I have to work all day M-F but it's a great idea for those lucky enough to stay home.

224 - Amen! In the same boat here. There really ought to be more options for working parents in this town.

I have a 4 year old and we just moved to Goleta. I haven't experienced unfriendliness with children here. Though I am a bit hesitant to take her to see a movie when she requests. As a non-moviegoer myself, I think this would be a great idea! Knowing a place is kid-friendly draws in allure and allows those parents to know that others are understanding. There's really nothing worse than feeling uncertain about your child's behavior in a situation or worrying about everyone around you reacting negatively. Parents need enjoyment too.

Camino Real did this for a good long while on the first Tuesday of every month but discontinued it due to dwindling attendance - the majority of parents have to work - it was nice of them to do it though.

224... if parents bothered to teach their kids manners the rest of the world would not mind having them around, except other parents of ill mannered kids.

Take your kids to the drive-in theater - you will save money, they will think its a great adventure, and no one will be bothered by any extra noise. They screen all kinds of movies with early and late shows. You can bring your own snacks or visit the snack bar. There are plenty of options for things to do with kids - you just have to look for them. Also, guess what 224 - having kids means that, yes, you will have to miss out on some things or hire a sitter. Been there, done that. It's part of being a parent.
