Thank you very much to everyone who made the Sierra Club's Lizard's Mouth
Cleanup a success on Sunday:
Jill and her energetic daughter Kennedi. Heidi, Susan, Lauren, Barry, Louise,
Robert(me!).
As always, people had a lot of fun experiencing the joys of being at Lizard's
Mouth! Added to that of course was the sense of accomplishment of making a
beautiful place even more beautiful.
We have organized these cleanups for many years at Lizard's Mouth and I noticed
immediately as we entered the area that it was cleaner this year than I have
ever seen it before.
Not sure if people are taking better care of the area or if others are also
doing their own cleaning up when they see trash.
Despite it being cleaner than in the past, there still was trash. We hauled out
18 pounds of trash to be exact! Some of the most toxic materials, like cigarette
butts, don't weigh very much. And we picked up a lot of those!
In some past years we had seen bright paint ball pellets that look like little
berries. These poison wildlife when eaten and we were happy not to see them this
year. The nastiest stuff to clean up is all too much broken glass. If people are
going to get drunk up there it would be good if they at least drank from cans!
It was quite hot out there and some people chose to stay close to the cave and
make it super clean while the rest of us did more scouting afield. Everyone did
well!
We also met a group of free climbers who were practicing inside the mouth of the
lizard. Their skill was impressive to watch!
