76th Annual Danish Days

The non-for-profit charitable Solvang Danish Days Foundation celebrated its
Annual Danish Days from Friday, September 14 through Sunday, September 16, 2012
this year for the 76th time with the theme of "Tak for Mad - Velbekomme! (Thanks
for Food - You're Welcome!). This three-day annual event honors the
establishment of Solvang by Danish-Americans in 1911 and helps preserve
Solvang's authentic Danish heritage. The closing ceremonies of the 76tb annual
Solvang Danish Days today (Sunday, 9/16/12), featured remarks from 2012 Danish
Maid Mia Nelson.
Thousands of spectators from near and far enjoyed the main Danish Days parade on
Saturday afternoon as well as the Torchlight Parade on Friday evening and the
charming Children's Parade today.
Mistress of Ceremonies for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies was Solvang
Conference & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Tracy Farhad whose agency
supports the Danish Days Foundation along with the City of Solvang, the Santa
Ynez Valley Hotel Association and dozens of local businesses and volunteers.
Serving as judges for this year's parade were two anonymous volunteer judges
(one from Long Beach and the other from Santa Barbara.). Farhad and Hans
Birkholm, one of directors of the Solvang Danish Days Foundation announced the
2012 parade winners:
Float: Figueroa Mountain Brewing Company
Musical Group: Santa Ynez Valley High School Jazz Band
Family Group: Andersen Family (Giant Aebleskiver Pan & Kitchen)
Animals: Seein' Spots Farm
Sweepstakes: Solvang Village Band atop the Carlsberg Wagon
