December 27, 2009 - Final Sunday
Today is the last the Sunday of the decade. Yep. It's been ten years since the millennium began. And, the single digit years of the twenty-first century are coming to a close. Others have proclaimed these last ten years as years of bubbles and troubles. Ed thinks of these years as a tsunami of change, destroying legacy institutions in much a more destructive manner than any 2YK bug ever could.
"It's the Internet, baby!" he says, "No one can control the spread of access, the flow of information, and the power of collaborative efforts."
Ed thinks we can use the power for good over evil. Only time will tell.
But as the sun also rises this Sunday (thanks Dan for the beautiful pics), after a decade of change and turmoil, things are pretty quiet in our little blue town by the big blue sea. Some of the regular Edhat columnists took the day off. For our end of the decade fare, we have a report of a sad trip to Prague, a dog who thinks she is queen, and a cat who likes to play Where's Waldo.
As a special end-of-the-year treat, we have compiled a year-in-pictures slideshow. It was a busy year! For you nostalgic types, we link to slideshows from years past.
The Non-profit of the Week this week, is the Wilderness Youth Project. They get kids outside, and help them build confidence.
Next Sunday will be a ten. See you then!
