March 22, 2007 - Plenty of Fish
We live in an interesting town where there's only one fabric store, but the Community Environmental Council (CEC) has two locations. So, when our March Ed-Ness Where Is It (ME WII) picture is of a piece of art outside a building that's home to the fabric store and one of the offices of the non-profit -
"by the fabric store" is a correct answer, while "by the CEC" is not.
The piece of art we showed yesterday is one of the fish that that was swimming on State Street a year ago as part of their first annual Steelhead Festival. And, in case you are wondering, yes ... this May there will be a second annual Steelhead Festival. In 2006, artist renderings of eight larger-than-life fish were displayed downtown along State Street. When the public art show was over, one of the fish was moved to the CEC's downtown office at 22 West Anapamu. The fish is next to the parking lot, the same lot with the cat on the wall, featured in WWII long ago.
22 West Anapamu was rebuilt a few years back. Previously it was home to Tony Roma (the rib place, not the quarterback) and a bunch of other restaurants, as well.
The CEC is an organization that focuses on solving local pollution and energy problems,
particularly as they relate to watersheds and sustainability. Their other office is by the mosaic map at Hendry's Beach.
The other March Ed-Ness picture shown yesterday could have been taken at a number places in town. The most common incorrect answer was "above Starbucks". But, this building is pink, and has some interesting stained glass windows. It's on the corner of Anacapa and Ortega - across the street from Paradise. It is a good place to go if you want to find old-time, local businesses. There is a hair salon, a used bookstore, an antique shop, and a crepe restaurant.
Edhat subscriber Epona identified both ME WII pictures correctly; and the Edhat Dog chose him/her as the winner of the day's t-shirt. Congratulations!
LinnyG maintains her lead in the March Ed-Ness Standings. But, there are plenty of five-point questions to come!
Here are today's contest pictures. Get them both correct, and you could win a super cool Edhat t-shirt.
