The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is proud to present Sanctuary, an art exhibit by Artist in Residence
Lizabeth Madal. This dynamic collection of newly created oil paintings explores the timeless beauty,
power and grace of the Santa Barbara Channel Islands.
Located off the coast of Santa Barbara, are four of the Channel Islands - Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa,
Anacapa, and San Miguel - home to unique plants and wildlife. "A sanctuary is a place of refuge and
protection, a safe haven," says Madal. Ultimately, it's any place that feels like home." In using the
Channel Islands National Park and National Marine Sanctuary as her inspiration, Madal's exhibit captures
a profound sense of…sanctuary.
Madal earned a Master of Arts Degree from California State University, Northridge, and subsequently
attended the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, where she began painting with oils, transferring
the beauty of the California landscape to canvas. Madal's work can be seen at the Bronze, Silver and
Gold Gallery in Cambria, and at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum Store.
Additional information about the artist is available at www.LizabethMadal.com.
Sanctuary opens with an artist reception on July 26, 2012 and will be on display through November 4,
2012.
