Uppur Bunk, Quest
Thursday July 05, 2012

By Edhat Subscriber

Artists from the Uppur Bunk Collaborative Art Space will orchestrate an experimental performance that humorously considers the social nature of the so-called art world. At CAF, the audience will wander through an interactive art experience that involves "schmoozing and boozing" one's way to the upper echelons of the art world. Guests will gather drink tokens, bracelets, and laminated badges that allow access to hidden areas and secret zones within the gallery, available only to the most talkative and investigative players. All ages welcome, however parents should be advised that alcohol is present. Viewing of UCSB MFA 2012 Exhibition: Headgear for Tony between 5 and 7 pm. Following the performance at CAF, Uppur Bunk hosts Afterparty, a second dynamic art event held at their space in Goleta, Friday, July 6 from 8 to 10 pm. Founded in 2011, the Uppur Bunk Collaborative Art Space is located at 158 Aero Camino Suite C in Goleta, CA and its residents are Samantha Fretwell, Katy McCarthy, and Patrick Melroy. Samantha Fretwell earned her BA in Art and Art History at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), where she was Curator of the Women's Center Art Gallery. Katy McCarthy received her BA from UCSB, and has exhibited at the Military Museum in Belgrade, Serbia, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, and on Pump Flixs, Santa Barbara, CA. Patrick Melroy received a BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, OR and an MFA from UCSB, where he currently teaches. About the Forum Lounge Series: Forum Lounge is a series of free, unique, performance-based events, ranging from the theatrical to the avant-garde that are normally found only in large metropolitan venues, and that reflect CAF's mission to sustain and encourage the artistic process by presenting art in the form of exceptional music, dance, video, and other multi-media to our community. Special thanks to: Endever Music Productions, Santa Barbara, CA; Franciscan Inn, Santa Barbara, CA; KCSB, Santa Barbara, CA; La Tour Wine Merchants, Santa Barbara, CA; National Endowment for the Arts, Washington, DC; Redfield Pictures, Santa Barbara, CA; Santa Barbara Independent; and Warbler Records & Goods, Santa Barbara, CA. Forum Lounge is presented in association with the Santa Barbara Downtown Organization's 1st Thursday.

About the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum: The Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum (CAF) is a non-profit, non-collecting alternative art space dedicated to the exhibition, education, and cultivation of the arts of our time.
