St. Mark's Evensong

ST. MARK'S-IN-THE-VALLEY EPISCOPAL CHURCH HOSTS EVENSONG, A COMMUNITY EVENT ON SUNDAY, JUNE 24, 2012 ~Singers Invited to Join in the Choir; Public Invited to Attend the Service; Followed by "Evensong" Book-signing with Brooks Firestone

Los Olivos, Santa Barbara County, California - St. Mark's-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church in Los Olivos invites the community to participate in a special Evensong service on Sunday, June 24, 2012 at 5:00pm. Singers are being invited to join the choir and the public is invited to attend the service. Evensong is a sung version of the Evening Prayer service. According to Evensong coordinator Brooks Firestone, "There are no auditions for singers to join in this Evensong, but some background in choir singing will be helpful. Any adult with some singing experience is invited to come to the church on June 24, 2012, at 2:30pm for a two-hour rehearsal under the leadership of Jo Anne Wasserman, Music Director of the Santa Barbara Choral Society and accompanied by Rose Knoles, St. Mark's Music Director.

The music in the service will include Palestrina's "Ubi Caritas," Psalm 84 set to Anglican chant; the Tallis settings of "Magnificat," and "Nunc Dimittis," the anthem "If Ye Love Me" and two hymns. The public is encouraged to attend the 45-minute Evensong led by The Rev. Dr. Randall Day and followed by a complimentary reception featuring local wines and refreshments. During the reception, copies of Brooks Firestone's new memoir "Evensong" will be available for purchase and signing, with all proceeds being donated to St. Mark's.

The Rev. Dr. Randall Day, St. Mark's Priest and Rector remarked, "All members of the community are welcome to participate in this Evensong, either singing in the choir or simply by enjoying the worship. It is such an uplifting experience and a wonderful way to celebrate summer with joyous music.
