Ever stared into the Pacific Ocean and paid attention to the multitude of colors? Did you see beyond the water's blue hue, to the white of sea foam, the pale yellow at the horizon, the red of beach umbrella? This is exactly what Emily Falke will encourage children to see during her Summer Painting Classes at the museum.
The Summer Painting Classes are a returning series of four art classes held at the museum. They began last year and proved so successful that Falk decided to bring the classes back again this summer. Like last year, students will learn various styles and textures of painting and focus on various subjects, all inspired by the sea and maritime culture. Children will draw harbor scenes and transfer the drawings onto canvas. They will then learn to mix colors and apply paint with a palate knife.
Falke brings over eight years of art teaching experience to the classes. Besides working as Curator and Director of Education at the museum, she also holds a BA in art from UC Los Angeles and a California teaching credential in art.
