Capps to Visit Jodi House Brain Injury Center

On Friday, in recognition of Brain Injury Awareness Month, Congresswoman Lois Capps (CA-23) will visit Jodi House Brain Injury Support Center in Santa Barbara to highlight the center's service to brain injury survivors. Jodi House members will speak about their experiences and the impact of Traumatic Brain Injury on their lives.

Capps will also highlight how the Affordable Care Act, or health care reform law, benefits Jodi House members and brain injury survivors. The health care law bans insurance companies from imposing annual and lifetime benefit limits that can be reached in the event of a catastrophic injury or illness. She will also discuss how the military has worked to address Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in veterans. TBI has been called the signature wound of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

"Jodi House provides incredible support and services to neighbors in our Santa Barbara community who have suffered brain injury, and I am looking forward to congratulating Jodi House on its thirtieth anniversary. The members of Jodi House also benefit tremendously from the Affordable Care Act, signed into law two years ago this month. No one should go bankrupt because they get sick. The members of Jodi House are a prime example of persons who experience a catastrophic illness who will no longer be subject to annual or lifetime benefit caps on their coverage." said Capps.
